Loosing water

Featured Replies

I have an old (02) Octavia 2 ltr diesel and it has been loosing a small amount of water for some months, the alarm goes off and I top it up every few days. i have had it pressure tested and nothing found, I have put in some of the product 'Kseal' for coolant leak probs and no significant improvement. There is no 'cream' on the dipstick, I can see no obvious leaks, the pressure cap seems fine as there is a big release of pressure when I slowly undo it. It has never run over temperature, there is no steam from the exhaust.

1) Does anyone have any suggestions please

2) Does anyone know the best place to get a drivers side door as I have probs with a door latch and window switch.    Many thanks to anyone who can offer some practical solutions / suggestions. Thanks Mat

Hi

They never made a 2.0 diesel in a mk1, they were all 1.9's, unless bored out. Have you had a sniff test done on the cooling system? This is where there is a liquid poured into a special container with a rubber bung on the end that goes into the header tank, and the gasses (if there are any) drawn through with a rubber hand pump, if any combustion gasses are present the liquid will change colour, indicating head gasket failure. I had this on my 1.9 tdi 2002, it would never overheat just loose coolant, more on longer runs. The head gasket was replaced over a year ago and I have not had to put a single drop of coolant in it since.

The door lock and window problems could be down to a few things really. If you could narrow down the problems that would help? They do have inherent issues with door locks failing (less than £30 off ebay), and corroded pins the control unit which is on the bottom of the window motor. Also they suffer with broken wires in the rubber boot between door and car. They do snap the cables on the window regulators too.

Hope that's of some help to you?

Hi, I recently replaced the Thermostat Housing on my Octi. I discovered upon removal it was the gastket that had failed. Could be worth have a look at this for signs of leaks.
