Will I be in bother???

Sarcasm the lowest form of humour

you don't say:P

but to show the other side of the coin decided to bring up how some content was possibly not suitable for younger members........or potential new members who might, mistakingly believe that this is all Briskoda is about.

However, Briskoda is a community, and as such it's members generally dictate the direction it takes - as the demographic of visitors varies, so too does the content that is posted.

As such, new members have the choice to either:

1. Join the demographic to which they fit in the hope that this demographic will gain sufficient weight to move the forum in the direction they wish.

2. They can find an alternative forum where their demographic is already controlling the direction.

As far as I'm aware, this site has never catered specifically for younger members - I'm not really sure why it would either?

But given that kids have an interest in cars and motorsport and could come looking specifically for a Skoda site shouldn't we give them something fit to look at?

The demographic of the site as changed to when I joined it, to I get the impression of a younger average age? this is no bad thing but does the site want to alienate more mature users looking for a skoda forum with a wealth of knowledge?

Yes it is user led but do the quiet and the meek just sit back and say nowt rather than be shot down which is the exact argument that pb put up originally, does the user group that currently leads the site want to exclude others at all costs and for these people to just stop visiting? Briskoda IMO was unique when I joined cos it was unlike most other car forums, maybe the new are clearing out the old, maybe Skoda are now mainstreem and as such theres now nothing to differentiate a Skoda from any other mark in the demographic of its owner base?

Lada anybody?

No disrespect Postmanpat, but you are only 8/9 years older than me, i would hardly be preparing myself for the scrapheap yet. I can understand where you are coming from with your point, but its the way the whole country is going.

My first car was a 1986 Nova, i had to work and save bloody hard to get it, now dealers and the likes are throwing cars at kids with cheap credit deals and free insurance the amount of 17YO's with brand new motors is breathtaking, this is just the way the country is going as a whole.

And allthough this site is not the country as a whole as such it will follow the same statistical normal distribution curve when it comes to age of owner/internet user.

Its only people like Blackmagic and matchmaker that help to balance the stats out :)

Surely postmanpat, you're here for the benefit that reading forum posts can bring, even if you don't agree with them occasionally.

As your specific questions have been answered, to "dis" the forums as you seem to wish to do in this thread does not compute

This is the blind alley I mentioned earlier and did not wish to go down and hence why i stated i was playing the devils advocate and only continued to do so as verbal banter with a couple of other members, as previously posted in this thread eveything can be misconstrued, this thread and my comments are the sought of thing i would enjoy in the pub over a few beers with friends. unfortunately the nature of posting is that replies can appear out of sink and are difficult to quantify easily and quickly. I don't want to fall out or upset anyone on this forum and as stated look forward to meeting all at a future meet and even admiring the modded machinary:eek:

At least i've answered the question i posed in the thread title YES

Its only people like Blackmagic and matchmaker that help to balance the stats out :)

 and a post deserving this feedback thingy.Spot on:thumbup:

I took the bus for the first few years of work.It has sent me slightly mad. They used to torture you and empty your pockets and ask you if you were mad if you wanted to borrow the banks money!

Roll on an interest rate hike.

My kids will have one wooden toy and no mobile phone:D .

But given that kids have an interest in cars and motorsport and could come looking specifically for a Skoda site shouldn't we give them something fit to look at?

As I said, the content is created by the user base - if the user base deems that it doesn't want to be kiddy-friendly, would you expect the moderators to alienate all of these users just on the off chance that kids might want to look at the site?

this is no bad thing but does the site want to alienate more mature users looking for a skoda forum with a wealth of knowledge?

Personally, I would expect mature members to be, well, mature enough to be able to use the wealth of knowledge which exists and to turn a blind eye to anything which may not specifically be to their tastes...

Yes it is user led but do the quiet and the meek just sit back and say nowt rather than be shot down which is the exact argument that pb put up originally,

On a forum, if you say nowt then you can't expect your opinion to be listened to, as no one has heard it.

If you make your opinion known, then people can respond to this - and thus a discussion is made.

Not sure I follow you on this comment?

Rob.

My take on it, have you ever had a sensible chat with a 20yr old. Whats it like at work when they take on casuals during holiday periods Pat, just the same as on here.

I class it as "life without living"

referring to us meldrewesque:P types who may come on for a browse and decide not to join if the first thing they see are the more shall we say extreme/risque threads.

Going back to demographics what do you think is the average age of a Skoda owner (nationally not on this site) and did I not hear that the so called silver-surfers are one of the largest internet user groups?

(Note to self stop antagenising folk, who don't know your personality, for the sake of it.:) )
