Will I be in bother???

Featured Replies

With referance to an earlier thread THIS FORUM now locked, my credentials are that the wife drives an octavia and will probably continue to do so and we have previously had a fabia vRS and I like them both, and as a fabia vRS owner to be (8 weeks  ) . I allways understood the threads on here to be freindly banter rather than bitter rivalry. I have been a member of Briskoda for a while now and would say that its Octavia vRS owners who may have become bitter at the fabia upstarts, ie the fabia is more a traditional hot hatch to the octavias family car hatch, and if fabia owners want to shout about the quality of their cars why not? octavia boys are no longer unique in owning a fast skoda. As for the forums deteriating I would probably agree to the extent that the general drift is toward something more max power, in most threads rather than just having a laugh:rofl: Nothing against modding if thats your bag and its not doing skoda awareness any harm  but maybe there should be a specific forum for this subject, it is getting a bit boring reading about the same companies re-map in every thread.:o

To answerr the Octavia Fabia argument the lightest most powerfull best sprung car will be fatest, so octavia as standard and after that the one that as the most money thrown at it, end of conversation.

PS is this feedback thing that people mention only rfor freedom members cos I can't find any so either nobody cares about me one way or the other, or if I have some I don't care cos I can't see it

I have always thought car chat should be split into 2 - Skoda and Non Skoda.

And as to Paul's earlier post

1. Fabia VRS are NOT necessarily the best car or the fastest. But why worry - you can only legally drive at 70mph in the UK. AFAIK ALL new cars will comfortably out run this - even the Smart.

2. It is what YOU - the owner/driver LIKE that is important. An example is the Porsche 911. Motoring Journos such as Tiff rave about them. To me, when I drove one, I hated it.

3. Paul do I detect some paranoia in your post. PLEASE understand not everyone is out to get you. Your clio is a great car - just my size means I cannot comfortably fit into the seats - my fault I suppose. Also it isn't as practical as my furby. That being said, handling and performance wise that car will beat mine any time - NOT that I even want to try it.

4. Finally Paul, why not come down to santa pod this Saturday - not necessarily for a race but to meet the guys from the forum. You may be pleasantly surprised how normal we are.

I also hated the 911 (996) I drove.

part of the problem with this and any other web forum is that it is very easy to type/read things thr wrong way. If you're sat round a table with someone it is easy to see when they're having a laugh or being sarcastic. Despite the use of "smileys" (:thumbup::D  etc.) it is difficult to judge what a user is really thinking.

All forums go through phases when people get upset, mods and admins lock threads, peopl ethreated to close down sites etc. A few weeks later people have forgotten all about it and carry on as they were before.

Briskoda seems to go through this phase around once in every 3 months.

It'll pass.

Fabia vRS was aimed by Skoda at 35 year old female professionals.Sort of an alternative to a Mini.Honest, don't shoot me.Ask Skoda.

My wife fits the category.Be great if there were 4,000 35year old ladies on here.Where are you all?:D

(mind you,I made her buy a man's colour;) )

I fhtat's where they were aiming...... they missed, by about 15 years in the opposite direction ;)

The locked thread you referred to had nothing to do with Octavia/Fabias....it was really to do with an ex Fabia RS owner and current Fabia RS owners.

Just to clarify.:)

After reading the thread again I can see that, however wot I have written I believe is pertinent to the topic of the forum going downhill as some recent posts seem to have got bitchier and more personell (but I took them as humour), but some threads seem to be more violent for want of a better word. I can appreciate the humour in all of the vids and pics, links posted and i aint a prude but at the end of the day this is a car enthusiasts site and should I have to turn the screen away if my 9 year old son looks over my shoulder???????? Can these links be shown in red to denote not work/child safe??

yippeee iv.e gort a reputation, how do I give a reputation back??????? how do i see whos given me a reputation??????

Does this meen i now care?

Most users who post inappropriate material include "NSFW" in the title, this means "not suitable for work"

If you are refering to the images next to user names or below a user's post (the signature) both of these can be turned off in the User CP under the Options section.

Know what you mean.

Unfortunately it the nature of the beast. We have looked into doing certain things but we, the Staff, can only do so much. .....it's really down to the members.

As for work safe etc....if something is blatantly not safe then people general put NWS in the subject line...however some thread don't actually start off being NWS but turn out to be.

Like I said I find it all amusing, but got my devils advocate head on, and yes if it says NWS etc I would turn the screen away from son before clicking link, ( which makes him try to look all the more:) )

It might just be me using the new posts link instead of individual forums so I am seeing more off topic threads........

but a point i made in my first point about a seperate link for modding, just a thought reading either the fabia or octavia forum about problems with cars, how many of these threads relate to modded cars that will then in turn put off a potential skoda convert browsing the site? making them think a clutch onlly lasts x miles etc.

Can't wait to come to my first Skoda meet so you can all attack me in person :P for crappy posts and an OAP attitude to the max power mob

Ultimately, this site isn't targetted at 9 year olds, so it is possible there would be unsuitable content.

Generally people are pretty good at putting "NSFW" on any posts and links they publish which may contain risque content - if anyone believes content should have this applied to it, they can hit the "report post" button and voice their concerns to the moderators, who will then make an amendment if it's deemed to be required. :)

Rob.

We used to have a "My Performance" forum, but it was decided with the split into Fabia and Octavia owners that this forum was getting too cluttered and leading to misunderstandings with people answering questions etc. under the misapprehension that they were talking about a different model. For that reason it was changed into forums under model names.

Fabia vRS was aimed by Skoda at 35 year old female professionals.

Well fancy that, spot on then  :D

Could continue this with my devils advocate head on but as it is going down a dead end alley which would be difficult to reverse out of without the wrong end of the stick being got or misleading opinions being formed i won't bother. And anyway as you must have guessed the devils head don't suit as i am a pious git............:langel:

Go ahead and play devil's advocate if you like, am sure in light of your above disclaimer then slack would be cut... :)

This would have been a lot easier if the original thread had not been locked cos then i would have just replied to say I could see were pb was coming from but it looked the same from whatever side of the fence you was sat on. This then got extended cos it was my thread so i thought i'd insinuate that i was fed up of every new post link throwing up the same modding stories watever forum it was posted in, this in turn deteriated into general off topic (ie not car related) material, again in all forums, which i find hillarious in the main but to show the other side of the coin decided to bring up how some content was possibly not suitable for younger members........or potential new members who might, mistakingly believe that this is all Briskoda is about. Personally I would be unhappy if it stopped cos i love banter sarcasm and am a signed up MCP, but don't want the site to loose its integraty, or close down like so many others for fear of liable etc. (All the rugby league clubs own forums and chat rooms that i used to frequent have closed for this reason as they degraded into fans just slagging one another off and liabelous statements about players etc.)

yippeeeee this threads now going bellow street level

I see my little attempt to alleviate the pedanticism shown by some here of late has gone a miss, instead of complaining about the forums maybe 'an individual' could analyse exactly what they contribute to it. as apposed to just meldrewesque statements.

Many thanks, thread now brought back up above street level!

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
