Speakers and power cable

Featured Replies

Hi!

Q1: Does anybody know the maximum mounting deepth and maximum diameter of the magnet for the front speakers in an Octavia RS? I have read about the plastic cover and it's ok for me to remove it, but I asume that there aren't much room anyway!? I would like to go for the DLS UP6 speakers.

Q2: Is there a hole somewhere in between the enginge room and the coupe were it's possible to have a power cable for my amplifier?

Regards,

Per, Stockholm - Sweden

Once the plastic cover is off, there are just 4 screws to undo to remove the speaker. Its may be quicker to do that yourself than wait for an answer. But if you do, please post the answer to your question for the benefit of others!

Hi Per. I just recently described the installation of the front speakers on another forum(Zatzy). Here is a link to that thread: http://forum.zatzy.com/showthread.php?s=6b4c302d35b33de64216b4caff1e3352&threadid=78504

Regarding the power cable it

Check this picture. The red arrow shows whats its look like a groumet to pass a wire to the from batery similar to the factory ones at the right.

Also could it be possible to take the power from the nuts thats show the yellow arrow????? and forget to pass a wire o the front batery????

If you dont plan to use an amplifier that needs alot of juice it wouldnt be any problem to use that connection. But if you however is going to use something that needs many ahmperes you have to connect the power cable to the battery. That is what a mechanic, a carstereo store and my common sense told me  The coneectors the picture shows obviusly has to supply lots of other things with power so that is why you shouldnt connect an amp there. Sudden powerdrains might damage something.

I use an amp that is measured to 1x605wrms in 2 ohms and I can clearly see the dashbord lights and headlights "fading"(?) when I play music... hmmm. Well, pretty loud

I have just found these three links on the UK MKIVs Forum with photos of how to pass a power cable through the bulkhead and connect it to the battery. The installation is for a Golf but may be OK for the Octavia too. If the links are of use, please report back and we will put them in our web links as a DIY Guide.

I almost did the same install. The only difference is that I, after putting the cable in the channel underneath the airbox, I removed that filterthingy and drilled a hole in a plastic cover behind it and just pressed the cable thru the hole and voila! The power cable was now down by the pedals. After reinstalling the filter the power cable is totally hidden. This install I did also means you don't have to have the cable as near the engine + it is even more discrete than shown in the pics. Oh an btw, everything looks exactly the same in the Golfs engine compartment as in an Octavia.

I hope you understood any of this
