Skoda Octavia advice

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm looking at changing my Fabia for a Octavia. I'm looking at purchasing a 2015 Octavia 1.4 TSI in SE trim but i'm a little confused. There are a few Octavia's for sale for around £12000 in SE trim but some of these have controls on the steering wheel. I don't think this is standard on the SE trim so I was just wondering if this was purely an option the previous owner had purchased? It's usually the SEL trim that comes with steering wheel controls.

Also, what year comes with Apple CarPlay? Is it just 2016 onwards?

Any other advice on purchasing an Octavia would be much appreciated!

Many thanks for your advice!

Buttons were an option bundled with the 3 spoke sports steering wheel, for about £250 iirc.

The standard wheel was the 4 spoke.

SE also didn't have cruise as standard that was around £200.

There were some SE+ models around in summer 2015, with sports steering wheel, cruise, auto lights and wipers, so look out for those.

Skoda Smartlink (Apple car play and android auto) can be activated on MIB2 radios produced from about May 2015, dealers charge £150-200.

You can tell MIB2 radios, no cd player in the glovebox.

Also have a good long test drive, some can't live with the road roar and cabin pressure changes.

The steering wheel buttons (an option) are a good idea. I struggle to hit the push buttons on the touch screen when driving.

A test drive is a must. I have no discomfort or noise problems with my 1.4tsi SE.

I'd look for an SE L for the smalldifference in price, its a very much nicer place to spend time

Thanks so much for the advice guys,

I have seen that many of the 2015 SE models come without cruise control which is a it of a deal breaker!

I have been looking at the SEL spec but they are so expensive on Auto Trader and there seems to be very few of them about. I have actually found that I can get an Elegance on a 2014 plate for a good price. The only issues is that I wanted a 2015 onwards ideally. The said, Skoda garages will still give a year warranty so its not all bad!

Ill just have to sell my Fabia first and see how much I get for it!

Thanks again

The MFSW was optional, but as glosrich has already said, it, CC and auto lights and wipers were included as standard in a special offer from about April to July 2015. Separately, the steering wheel changed from four spoke to three spoke with the MY15 changes in cars built from the end of May. At the same time the 1.4 TSI engine changed from 140 PS Euro 5 emissions to 150 PS Euro 6.

I'm just in the process of trading my  2013 1.2 petrol Hatch SE for a late 2014 diesel 2.0 Elegance DSG Estate. I'd worked abroad for a while and when I got back the family motor died. I hired a car whilst it was fixed and was given a Octavia randomly. This was the start of my love for them. Though as I found out the one I'd had, an L and K, had literally every option on it.

The SE is a nightmare to try and get MFSW retrofitted. The dealerships don't want to do anything non-vanilla. It always niggled me not having the steering controls and was my only real issue with 1.2 SE bar being a little gutless in lower gears.

We had a puppy recently and the hunt was on to get an estate, so I wanted to right the wrongs of my first purchase. First off the Octavias really hold their value, so after some hunting around I was able to part ex my SE and maintain the equity of my initial £1,000 deposit. Not bad considering I'd had it 12 months.

I found an Elegance with MFSW, electric seats, Nav, DSG, auto light/wiper, cruise, colour maxi-dot, leather and folding mirrors for £12,300. It had covered 36,000 miles.

There's deals out out there if you hunt for them. Don't compromise on your wish list as the Octavia is impossible/uneconomic to retro options later. So getting everything you want first time around is really important.

Id really recommend a website/app that a friend at work put me onto called Car Gurus. That's how I found my new car. What I liked is it tells you if the value of the cars listed and if the price is under or over market rate, which is really helpful. Sadly Autotrader was just full of expensive dealer stock. Though I found some decent priced stuff on EBay. Remember most cars have a 3 year/60k Skoda warranty.

Also check out Tootle, it's a car sales comparison site for selling your car. It's all free and they basically get independent garage to bid on your car. It's subject to inspection but what I liked was you pick the firm based on their value and it doesn't matter if there's outstanding finance or a pcp element. I used the figures off there to negotiate my part ex value upwards.

Youll have to let us know how you get on!

Its funny you mentioned the 2.0 TDI Elegance. I have actually just bought one today!

Managed to get an early 2014 Elegance with 27000 miles for £11495. Seemed like a good deal and its from a Skoda dealer so it is Skoda approved. I literally haven't found a cheaper Elegance with the same age and miles.

The garage have agreed to do a bit of body work for me and are delivering it to me on Thursday.

Seems like a lovely car and great to drive. Ill be looking forwards to driving it!
