Unhelpful Dealer?

Featured Replies

had a Fabia TSI 90 from new since April 2016 and the service indicator hasn't shown up yet. As the car has only done 3500 miles I've assumed that the car is set for mileage-based servicing rather than time intervals but would like the oil/filter swapping. Didn't get the car from the local Skoda dealership as their trade-in offer on my old Fabia(got new from them and always serviced by them) was very poor; full list price on new car and refused any sweeteners, trade-in offer on old car equally disappointing. Eventually went through Drive the Deal for new car and Webuyanycar for disposal of old acr(10% more than dealer offered).

Rang local dealer's service dept to ask if they'd do the oil/filter swap. Their team leader advised that 'They' would have asked a customer what type of driving they did when the car was ordered; they then went on to state that it would 'upset the car' if the oil was changed. She didn't advise that they could change the service schedule, which they can, and seemed keen to draw a close to our conversation. Told her to leave it with me.

I've checked the oil and it's very clean and the car hasn't used any so I'm considering leaving it for the time being. Thoughts anyone?

1) Do not waste your time calling that dealer again!! The service receptionist was lying to you.

2) Unless your car was delivered on "variable servicing" and you weren't told, the service interval would be X miles or M months, whichever is sooner. "Fixed mileage" service is usually "every 12 months" so it's due on that basis.

3) If a car is on variable, and an oil change is done, it requires specialist computer programs to reset the service indicator to variable. If this software is not used, the car will revert to fixed service. Given your stated annual mileage this is more appropriate anyway.

Exactly---sound advice     avoid them at all costs and find a recommended VAG specialist near you
