Pickup Checklist?

Featured Replies

As mentioned in other threads, I've currently got a 1.0 110 SEL Hatchback on order, due to be delivered at some point in mid-late August, all being well. (Side note: it'd be great if Skoda offered some kind of online order tracking facility).

One thing that popped into my head earlier today: are there any known issues / potential defect areas that I should check before accepting delivery of the car? I've seen a few threads mention the transport blocks and tyre pressures - are there any other problem areas on the MK3 Fabia that are worth a deeper look before driving off? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Enjoy the car.

Maybe contact the Salesperson you are dealing with by Email then by phone and discuss the Service Regime you want the car set at.

Fixed / Annual or Flexible / Variable and up to 2 years between services so they can ensure it is as you want.

Tell them if you do not want Dealership Stickers on the car, and say what you want as to Autolocking, one touch locking etc so that it can sorted out at the PDI stage by a Technician and not just a Fitter doing the PDI.

Thanks for the heads up - I wasn't aware that you could choose your service plan, so I'll do some reading into this. I'm not sure that I'll be regularly doing the mileage to drop me into the "flexible" category...

By "Autolocking", do you mean the car activating the central locking once above a certain speed? What do you mean by "one touch locking"?

Thanks for the response so far!

Yes you can choose so if doing under 10,000 a year fixed might be best, some Dealerships will do that anyway but they should ask the person buying.

Yes autolock enabled so you have doors locking at 10km or so if you want that.

One touch / press locking if that is what you want just incase it comes with needing to double press.

It is nice if a Salesperson goes over those things with you between order and delivery so the vehicle is as you would like.

Even tell them the tyre pressures you want maybe then they are left in no doubt and have no excuse for sending out at 40 PSI or so....

Make sure you check the car over carefully for minor scratches (not in the rain as I did and later found a small scratch on the bonnet).

Also familiarise yourself with the infotainment system before driving off as fiddling with it in motion can be a dangerous distraction if you don't know where things are.

Had a call from the dealer yesterday to say that the car was built last week and is now on the way across Europe. Will be a 67 plate. Not long to wait now!

The service plans for 3 years annual servicing are quite good value, worth looking at, ask your salesperson or check the service section of skoda website.

I got 2 years thrown in as part of the whole deal :tongueout:

My wife's Polo was bought with a prepaid, what turned out to be a dealership 3 year service plan - as an optional extra at point of picking it up. Only moans that I have is, at the first year service I did not get any paperwork in the form of exactly what tasks/parts had been used, at the second year service, things had improved and I got a zero value bill with all parts and their discounted costs shown, but, they did use the cheaper normal service 5W-40 engine oil and the cheaper plain pollen filter (that was what was listed in that bill and what was fitted to that car at service) - that car came from factory with a carbon impregnated pollen filter as it has auto AC and the online parts listing reflects, so I did think that that was a bit of cost cutting, so now I'm going to bin that filter as it does not work like the previous one, and fit a Mann Frecious pollen filter from ECP.

Really no real harm in using the normal service oil expect that when I checked before its first service, I was assured that they only ever used long service 5W-30 engine when servicing newish cars - even ones on yearly or fixed mileage servicing.

That's bad,did you complain?

Well, as sometimes it  ends up as, the car was handed back a bit late and wife had an afternoon meeting organised at a friend's house, so it was a case of grabbing it and running away!

Only after examining the zero value bill, did I spot the extra info wrt what oil had been used, ie Quantum 5W-40, the part number of the pollen filter quoted on the bill indicated that the cheaper option had been fitted, and I later checked that that was what had actually been fitted to the car.

Now yes, for me a bit of a moan, but for others who are about to sign up for a dealership prepaid service plan and who have auto AC - this is just an advisory bit of info, as the OP was asking for.

I have assigned that issue to memory and if I need to I'll add it into any thing else that this dealer does "not quite right" with regards this car while it is under warranty, really not worth making the effort to go back there and complain as that would involve making another appointment at the workshop etc, they will know that and hope people just get over their way of working, I'm not out to change the world, just to warn others of what might happen that they feel is not quite right.

I've always only ever bought a "cheaper deal" when it was going to be that - ie the right work/item at a cheaper price, and not something else that was a lot cheaper!

Got a call from the dealer yesterday - the car is in the UK and should be with the dealer later this week / early next week. I'm heading over next Tuesday to sign the relevant paperwork and discuss the other "configuration" options mentioned above (servicing, autolocking etc.).

Hoping to pick it up on 1st or 2nd September as a 67 plate. I'm looking forward to it!

In Germany this weekend and, in a strange coincidence, my rental car is an MKIII Fabia! It seems to be a 1.2 110 DSG. I'm not sure on the trim level - it doesn't have an armrest nor Android Auto connectivity, but does have heated seats and cruise control.

Very impressive on the Autobahn - handled 100mph without any problems, and returned an indicated 51mpg between the airport and our destination.
