vrs ride height lowering springs

Featured Replies

so next on my list is lowering, the standard dampeners on my car seem fine and are still very firm when dropping over a speed bump the rear rebound is very tight so I think the shocks are ok still.

the question is are there any springs that go lower than the standard eibach pro that all people seem to get which is 20mm lowering on a vRS so total drop 35mm (correct me if I'm wrong)

I was looking at the sportline which is 25mm additional over vrs so 40mm total but I believe these are only for the estate.

ideally id like 25-30mm drop so 40-45 total

would these be 35 +15(vrs) so 50 in total or 35-15 so 20mm drop on vRS

there's :

which I would imagine is total 50mm drop from standard ride height but I think this is just a bit beyond the standard shocks capacity and would need shortened shocks as well

Was just about to say you'd be taxing the standard shocks going lower than 35-40mm. Would coilovers not tickle your extra low bug?

yeah i thought about that but i remember my passat on rsx coils and the ride was so hard it was to the point of being uncomfortable which puts me off going down that route again.

i dont want to go particularly low, but peoples cars on eibach pro's just dont seem like theyve been lowered although it's looking more likely ill be going down that route too

Those mounts look like ones for mk1 octy so won't fit mk2

yeah it was just a suggestion / idea - not particularity wanting to buy those exact ones

Drop Damian a message or start a thread in the DMP performance section, he will be able to advise, although I think Vogtland quote the drop on top of the vRS standard ride height so lowering it by a further 35mm.

Hi,

You definitely need to be sure your Dampers are OK, there are various threads on here of people fitting lowering springs and then having to change the dampers as well.

I fitted the Pi lower springs on my Mk2, car was on 60K and the ride was great for a while after the change but within a couple of months it was terrible and bouncy, the dampers were ruined, no visible leaks or anything. I then had to upgrade to full kit, i went for the H&R kit.

You also need to look a the bump stops as they may also need to shortened slightly to accommodate the lower ride height.

If I was looking to do this again I would go straight to a complete change as I read the few threads of people having problems and also the other who all said it would be fine and went down the low cost route thinking it would all be good, but it cost me a lot more in the long run.

Last thing depending on mileage it is also worth considering changing the strut top mounts whilst its all apart.

Whatever you decide hope it goes well.

Stewart.

shortened bumpstops on 20mm?? - the eibach pro kit was once a Skoda accessory add on so i'm not sure this is necessary

agree with the top mounts - I will be replacing those when I change the springs.

If your going with the Eibach pro kit take a look at the Bilstein B4 sport Dampers, I have this setup on my FL vRS TDI and for me suits the car perfectly, car is nicely lowered without being slammed so I dont have to avoid speed humps.

I would say the dampers are OEM plus for ride quality but are shortened to match lowering springs.

And I agree that replacing the top mounts at the same time, I did the same .

oh and you wont need to change the bumpstops with that setup unless they are knackered.

morning,

went for the eibach pro kit 20mm- which is now on its way to me.

apart from changing the top mounts - any recommendations for ones to buy? and 4 wheel alignment once fitted is there anything else I need to consider

can this be done on the drive on my own? I've also never fit springs on their own before any guides?

do i need to change the rear mounts ... I have conflicting info on this.

you can fit these if you have spring clamps but if you have never done these before it might pay you to get someone with the know how of there are a lot of videos on youtube that can help.

you wont have to replace the rear mounts either but you will need a 4 wheel tracking done afterwards.

Let me know ho the car rides after you have had this done as looking into this myself as new to VRS ownership the only thing I dont like is the ride height as it looks like a 4x4 lol

i do, i've fitted coilovers before just not springs alone ... looks fairly straight forward plus my neighbour works at  kwickfit (he's one of the few ones at that company that actually know what he's doing! :D) and will probably be out working on one of his cars should i need his help

im going to get a price from a vag specialist near me just in case its not much

standard or polybush top mounts??

Bilstein B8's will be coming at some point soon too

I got the H&R -50mm Cup Kit fitted to the VRS. Initially it dropped by 20mm but over time has dropped more although I haven't measured it again.

It has been pretty good. Handling and ride much better than standard.

I got the cup kit and a Whiteline RARB from DPM Performance.

do you need to take the hub nut off and remove brakes etc. for the fronts?

or is the front set up McPherson, so I can just undo the 3 bolts?
