Timing belt cost

Featured Replies

Alright peeps?

Sorry if this has been covered but could anyone give me a ball park figure for a timing belt, water pump, tensioner and rollers?

Car is a 2012 octavia vrs tdi cr170.

Skoda want 495 and local indy, who I trust but is always on the pricey side, wants 450.

Not trying to skimp because I'll end up going with one or the other, I just wanted to hear some opinions.

Cheers

Martin

2 years parts and labour warranty at the dealer. Covers a lot. Not much in the price. Does that include water pump and stretch bolts and all cambelt parts inc pulleys?

You might also find your dealer is happy to price match other garages using genuine parts :)

That's what will probably swing it in the dealers favour. For the sake of 45 quid a bit more peace of mind.

Yeah that covers the full lot.

Still need to check with the dealer that they won't do the emission software update if I decide against it whilst it's in.

Will do. More than likely drop in to Skoda tomorrow.

This was my concern. I have the same model same age as you.

I booked my car in to the stealers for a cam belt and water pump change last Wednesday. I paid the fixed £485 price and there was absolutely no negotiation whatsoever but I was happy with the 2yr guarantee etc.

I had decided not to have the emissions update done under any circumstances and would have walked away if they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't be done.

It was easier than expected. I dropped the car off, explained that I didn't want the update and they completed a refusal section on their system and printed it out. I had to sign it and then they wrote on the job card not to do the update either.

I felt better about this and refreshingly, rather than deny any issues, they agreed albeit off the record that it was the right decision.

They also stated Skoda UK won't be sending any more letters inviting me to have the emissions update done!

Interesting, thanks for that.

Didn't manage in today is I've buggered my neck and I'm couch bound.

I'm surprised they have a system in place for people refusing to have it done. I guess in this day and age people have all the info at their fingertips. I'd assumed I'd be in the minority by not wanting it done.

Car is due a service as well which I was going to have done elsewhere but if they can guarantee they won't do the update I might get it all done in the one place.

My favourite local VAG specialist is doing the complete cambelt, roller, tensioner and water pump on my car for £395.  Another local VAG specialist quoted £375.  I am using the first as he is closer and provides a loan car for free.

Sorry for the delay, been laid up the last few days.

£485 for the timing belt and associated extras- water pump, tensioner and a couple of rollers.

If I don't want the software update that's my decision.

On a a side note £181 for a minor service including fuel filter as I'm not sure it's ever been done. (Well I was told it was done but I'm the kind of guy that won't stop thinking about it unless I know it's been done)

Phoned them back to book in for the service and asked them to put a note on the file saying I didn't want the software update. The girl asked me why I didn't want it done and I said I've weighed it up and the negatives outweigh the positives for me. She says that's no problem at all but I need to tell you that if you get the update done then if anything in the fuel system becomes faulty including glow plugs and egr/egr cooler then we'll fix it no questions asked but if you don't get it done and something breaks then you're on your own. I said I'll be on my own anyway no as it's out of warranty. She just said that's something she has to tell me. She was brand new to be fair and just do in her job but thought that was an interesting tactic!

Ps. No mention of fixing the dpf no questions asked if I have the update done.
