VRS Tyre comparison!

Featured Replies

As promised in an earlier thread, I said I would compare my new Yokohama C-Drive assymetric tyres against my OEM Conti Sport contact 2s.

Well it goes a bit like this: winner gets 10/10 runner up gets a score out of 10 proportional to how well they compared

Yoko Conti

Dry grip 10 9

Wet grip 10 8

Road noise

slow 7 10

Fast 10 8

So the Yokos have it but only marginally. The road noise is a strange one. At low speed the Yokos have a deep rumble which is all but gone at high speed whereas the Contis have a high pitch whine which is there (albeit fairly quiet) at low speed and which stays fairly constant up to high speed, it's never really lous it's just that the yokos are very quiet at speed.

The only issue i have with the yokos is that my steering now feels much lighter at the front end ( a little too light for comfort) so I'm gonna get the car checked out at my local dealer before i tackle the Anglesey circuit on the 12th March. I'm gonna take my old Contis with me and try and sell them!

I would have considered yokos, my friend has them on a VTR and swears by them, but I do HUGE mileage, and my tyre place told me they were so soft they'd wear out too fast, but the flip side of that is the great performance you describe....

I went for goodyear F1'a in the end, better than the contis in every way but traction! weird, seems you get a tyre than brakes and corners better, but looses in traction, i manage to wheelspin more often now.....

Bugger, Looks like I'll be doing a Yoko V something else test ina a few months then. (Hmmmmmm:rubchin: maybe I'll keep the Contis after all.................)

thanks mate!

I've just gone for a set of Falken FK452's in 215/40/17, and so far I'm impressed. Wet grip is infinitely better than any tyres I've had on the Furby before, and they only cost

I find I have to actually try to get spin with the F1's on now. They don't lose traction unless you really push them?

and what do you think about the new tyres on the market GOODYEAR ECXELANCE ?im decidin betweet this and the contis what do you think.my tyre should be 215/40R17

they never loose traction unless you push them, maybe I should have been a bit more clear.... I'm compairing them both "when pushed hard" in a real spirited drive....

for example the F1's turn in much better than the contis did, you can brake and turn in hard, but if you then try to accelerate out of the corner, (greasy /wet roads) you get power understeer more than with the contis,(maybe due to a higher corner entry speed...) in the dry the grip is huge...

under any 'normal' driving day to day stuff, no probs ;) would reccomend above the contis, but haven't tried any others for the furby yet.... after previous peopls reviews on here, I'm tempted to try a set of toyo's next, don't think I've heard a bad thing about them yet.......

Thinking of gettting some OZ 17's, found them with Toyo's on for 640ish. So might do that when the F1's need replacing.

Still think the F1's look so much nicer than the Toyos though

they do have a good look, and that solid outer edge is what gives that great dry weather grip.........

Have you been out on a Mildly moist or slightly damp road yet Jut??...........:)

Yep. I can still spin them up when I try, but unless I drive like a tool, they're all good. I know the ZE512's are a bit pants but these ones seem pretty good. Guess it's a bit of pot luck with the cheaper brands. It's like the Kumhos, I founf the 712's on my standard rims to be pretty good, but the KU31's on the new rims were pants in the wet, and they're supposed to be the superior replacement for the 712's
