Fabia lit needles

Featured Replies

Just checking if anyone has managed to code lit needles on their Fabia (when ignition is switched on needles light up)

I've managed it on a few other cars and will be trying it tomorrow on a Fabia dash.

Im 100% sure I'll manage it but not sure how difficult it will be!

  • Well... today after about 2 weeks of trial and error I had success, I've actually ran out of my testing wires  and crocodile clips but it worked!   Now it's time to go back to the original p

Unfortunately you have to spend your 7 euros + VAT on each of the erWin sites separately, I'm pretty sure, even though the same login gets you into Skoda, Seat, or VW (not tried Audi). At the end of e

Here you go @Lord_Moppy. My set-up for talking to the J519 module off the car.   Hacked-about KKL cable with K-line (blue wire), 0V and 12V (red) connections broken out.

I've done this to a few MK4 golfs never tried it on a Fabia tho so will be following with interest.

Guess no one has managed it yet then. I spent the time I had this afternoon making a wiring loom to bench test, I thought I could use a similar setup to the golf etc but seems the Fabia clocks are canbus not K-line like the mk4 golf etc

Edited by hutchysrs50

Should have give us a shout I have a loom I made for a mk4 because vag tacho takes an age to pull the SKC.

What make are the clocks, you might need vag commander as well, it's been a while since Iv looked in to it so it's all a bit grey to me tbh.

I do have a vagK+can lead if your local to Manchester and want to give that a whirl.

Thanks for the offer, I have the full latest version of Vag commander and vag tacho so no problem really.

the connections are very different to any other make of model I've seen before, typical of skoda :D

they use a wide 8 pin plug, not the standard green/blue/gray 32 pin every other dash uses!

Ah right I just assumed they would be the same.

Keep us posted.

I will do, be a project for the weekend I'd think. Got such a busy week as it is, really wanted to get stuck into it as well!

  • Author

Managed to get it wired up on the bench and linked to the laptop, needed a canbus commander and 120ohm resistor on the wiring but got there in the end.

read the immo/eeprom data but havnt started editing yet, that will

be tomorrow or the weekend :)

Progress has been slow with staff members taking holidays at work so had mega overtime for the past 3 weeks, should be back to normal from next week.

Good going fella.

Well, the Fabia has me a little stumped currently. It won't communicate with any of my software on the bench.

shocking as I can communicate with older dashes like mk4 golf and Passat etc to the new mk7 golf, mk2 Fabia & plenty others.

Lack of pinout is causing problems i suppose, I do have one version but has about 7 canbus wires listed.

What year is the dash that you are trying to talk to?

I actually have 4 dashes, one of them is very early and that one I had some results, the other 3 are 2004, 2007 automatic and 2006 VRS.

This is the pinout I've used previously.

Will see what I can find, possibly not tonight though. I should have info for any mk1.

If you can find a definite can H and can L wire that will help, I've wired in what I though (and what works on every single other dash!) but just won't connect.

Im sure you'll work some magic.

Every version of current flow diagram that I have (1999>, 2002>, 2004>, 2006>) shows the same pinout as your link, so no help there. Are you connecting to 7 & 8, or 9 & 10, or tried both? Edit: actually pins 25 and 26 are all described as 'not assigned' in the current flow diags, rather than CAN screening as in the workshop manuals pinout?

Are you doing anything with the 'wake up' connection, pin 24? I don't know how it works but I can look at circuitry where it comes from in the J519 central electrics unit.

I connected to pins 7 and 8, orange /black & orange/brown

They match up to the colours on my OBD2 port for can H and L so confident they are wired up correct.

I tried 9 & 10 also as they are also canbus wires orange/brown & orange/green (note: no other car uses green)

the obd2 doesn't have orange/green wire but just matched it to the suitable H or L option.

As for the wake wake up wire, I connected it to a live but I THINK it's similar to K-Line where it's not actually a switched live but more a signal telling it what to do, I never tried earthing it tho.

when I googled the wake up wire it shows connecting it to the canbus module before going to the OBD2 port

However, I have a master controller (wasn't cheap) that works on every car basically and adjusts the resistors needed and converts the signal wires etc but can't work out which ones to connect to... correctly.

Sorry if it sounds a little confusing

Just a thought but I might try and rule out the OBD2 port and wire straight to the clocks

clocks > harness > commander > PC

as currently its....

clocks > OBD > adaptor harness > commander > PC

Ive never used this method before but it's all fun learning so will try later :D

Worth a try, for sure. You're way ahead of me in these things.  Will reply to your PM when I've watched the video.

Be interesting to see how you get on. Is it a case of changing part of the eprom?

  • Author

Yeah, save the full file and open it in a hex editor (vag commander has one built it) and change the correct field, will take time editing them but I'm sure it can be done.

Im lucky enough to do in on a bench with 4 spare clusters so don't need to worry about bricking them.

It's a shame they don't work like others I've managed.

(Note: only the left two needles have blue LEDs lit up as I was playing about with them)

Yet all the Fabia clocks I've tried gets no communication and won't talk to the computer. I'll try adding a can gateway but I wasn't aware the mk1 Fabia had one.

Yep, within the central electrics/J519 box. Turns CAN stuff into K-line stuff (and vice-versa, I guess) for the diagnostic port.

  • Author

I'll purchase one from eBay and possibly with your help and wiring diagrams I can get a rig made up.

do you think any gateway will do, I've got a mk5 golf one already.

Found this wiring diagram while looking for information. Sorry about the red highlights as it's from somebody els.

Fabia dash pinout

so please bare with me those that are following with the wiring diagrams.

If i wire dash 9 & 10 to J533 7 & 17.

Then wire dash 24 to J533 13

Then wire J533 9 & 19 to OBD port

That should work I think.

I can talk you through how to legally download any/every Skoda wiring diagram for less than a tenner if you want? (Tomorrow,, got some sprinting to watch just now).

  • Author

Sure, we can talk more tomorrow.

is it just Skoda or any VAG, wiring diagrams arnt always very good when I compare them to pinouts so interested to hear your view on that.
