low rpm torque loss

Featured Replies

HI,

I have a 1.4TSI 14MY stickshift with 88k kms on the clock. Recently I've started noticing some power loss in the 1200-1500 rpm range. Typical scenario: I have to reduce speed in traffic, so I let the speed drop, rpm falls to something like 1200, don't change gears and when traffic eases up, I gently push the pedal to regain speed, enjoying the nice low end torque these engines produce. I'm not talking about flooring it or anything like that, just gently. Nowadays I'm noticing myself switching back to 4th or 3rd much more often, as the car is not willing to regain speed as it used to.

Otherwise no complaints at all, above 1500rpm the car is nimble and willing as it used to be, and fuel economy is just stellar. I've driven multiple 1000km+ trips this summer (some of them at motorway++ speeds) and the car ran just splendid.

So what could this be ? Spark plugs wearing out already  (got them changed about 2yrs and 30k kms ago) ? I've changed the air filter last year (not believing Skoda telling me it was due at 120k kms).

Can this be an early symptoms of "the coking" and should I start saving up for a walnut cure ?

thanks,

Tiv

It could be as simple as poor fuel, try some high octane fuel and or a different fuel station.

Plugs or leads IMHO
