Contemplating purchasing my pcp car part way through

Featured Replies

Hello. Changed my Octy on Pcp over to a Superb in April this year. I am hopefully moving house shortly and with the equity I was contemplating paying off my PCP which is not interest free and keeping the car, for a few years anyway. I have a 3 and half year Pcp on an L&k dsg 2 litre tdi. I am really enjoying the car and it would help on a monthly basis if I had the extra money that I am currently paying for the Pcp. The bonus is I won't have to worry out excess mileage too. My concern is that if I come to sell it privately or some other method in future will I be losing out money wise and will it be harder to sell a diesel?

Am I mad contemplating this?

I wouldn't want to sell a diesel privately in the current market. Rightly or wrongly, diesel is getting a bad rap and dealers are saying it's harder to move a used one. I would hang on to it until the end of term, by which time they'll probably offer you a hybrid/petrol as a replacement. Or nitro/electric. Or aero-balloon.

Thanks. Maybe I will do a Pcp in 2-3 years again and part ex the car.

I wouldn't be worried about it being diesel, it's mostly hot air and bluster, they'll decide petrol is too flamable to be used on the road or something next, new diesel sales have dropped a little, but second hand? Not seen any price drops. Also, if electrics really take off then it will last you 10yrs then you'll want to buy electric anyway! I just bought my 64 plate Octavia elegance 2.0tdi and plan to keep it for 10yrs. Diesel is going to stay because you can get 60mpg compared to 45mpg in a petrol.

Basically having a car from new whilst nice is paying the biggest depreciation of its life.

Thanks. Will wait and see if I sell my house at a good price before making the decision.  I am paying quite a bit per month so would be nice to free that up but not by sacrificing the size/quality of my new home.
