M&S credit card, that is our petrol buying card as well as other things, as you said that you are flying away on holiday, my wife always used M&S for foreign currency as you get a better deal as an account holder, our nearest M&S is 5 miles away and is mainly just an edge of town food place with limited choice.

yes..we too

the foreign currency one is good...

last year i saw the enhanced rate in m+s for cardholders...and was pleased that they dont count that as a cash advance and you get points as well

get my jeans and tee shirts there as well..

clarks for shoes

pound shops for shirts...:D

No, that idea is being rolled out nation wide I think, much grumbling about that here! The local council are getting involved as they think that it is terrible as a health centre is next door, but the question must be, why did the local authority sell all that land to Lidl - and then expect Lidl to provide free parking for all, including "out of towners" who use it as a park and ride to work!

I have remembered once to "log out" - an old guy in front of me the day I used the parking system, just said, I'll do it next time, I don't think that he could work out that the next time he answered the door it might just be a sheriff's officer wanted payment plus a bit more!

hah!!

the locals who go by train to truro use co-op and asda car parks...

the asda security chap told me...they have a 3 hour time limit and they plan to book the cheaties

in manchester the asda have sensors under each parking space and a large board inside

when a car goes over the limit...clamp...£60

Sorry, not sure what loose cable to bonnet release switch you mean... Do you HAVE a loose cable there? Cant say I have ever seen one...

The loose battery thing I mentioned... Loosen the earth a little, pop spanner inside car, lock with remote, THEN pull off the earth. If you loosened it just right, it will still contact, to use the remote but be easy enough to pull off when you do so! Pull it completely off, close bonnet and all is secure. (Keep hold of key)!!!

mrcrow sounded like he was confusing the "loosening the battery earth" with something else. To recap, mrgf was suggesting that you slacken off the battery earth "just enough so that you could lift it off the post" - but doing that you could push it back so that it was tight enough, open a door, put the spanner in the car, close the door and lock up the car, then lift off the earth lead, place it (maybe in a poly bag) down the side of the battery, then close the bonnet - and walk towards departures etc!

Edit:- ah that has just been clarified!

Right - did you ever find these soft rubber covers on the edge of the doors, if you look closely you will see an indent on them - which might have been meant to be a clue as to what lies below them?

Better set your alarm for an early visit to Lidl for one of these lights tomorrow!

hi chaps...this post and the ones before multi quote and thanks...

what i did today

lock the car with the battery attached but left the drivers door open after being out on a drive

popped the bonnet leaning over from the drivers side

took off completely the earth connection on the battery...straight off no messing!!

closed the drivers door........... but left the bonnet open just in case...;)

unlocked the car with the key and then closed it and locked with the key

shut the bonnet

took a deep breath

unlocked the drivers door with the key

went away and had a watch of tv for a half hour

came back, opened the drivers door with the key...and then locked it with the key...the battery is still disconnected during this exercise.

so

i think its a bit of each of your suggestions except i didnt try the rubber plug idea...and would have if this didnt work

how does that sound..??

just been out just now to check and unlocked the drivers door and then locked it..

next time the battery is hooked up i think i will do the key exercise to put the window up and down..is that right??

its fun really to see the ECU do the thing with the mpg...30 seems to be the base...

i drove from where i had lunch today back home around 4 miles...and probably only went over 40 a couple of times...country roads etc

when i got home the mpg was at 54...is it playing silly buggers with me???

cheers

there is a cable running along the top of the rhs wing and round to the bonnet lock...looking in the direction of forward

it was disconnected when i got the car...i connected it and didnt see any warning lights...but now i think of it didnt look at the central led array on the dash for open doors

anyway its now disconnected

later i will reconnect and look on the dash array for the bonnet open indication..when i open it

the array is the bit which tells you you have left a door open or the boot is not shut...whatever it is called

down below the cd/radio i have a lcd screen normally for the audio info...but in reverse gear it shows the car's relation to any bleeping rear obstructions...it bleeps as i pass the lamp post at the end of my drive...

cheers

ps see the above concerning the battery disconnect and door locking

i made a mistake in my earlier method to lock the car

i found out you cant lock the car with the drivers door open but pop the bonnet is ok

i found out you can lock the car but cant remove the battery earth or the alarm goes off

i found out you can then unlock the drivers door with the key after full locking

then remove the battery earth

then lock the drivers door with the key

so..

i misunderstood one of you chaps posts yet got it right on try one earlier today

will keep posting as the neighbours continue to throw rotten fish on my windscreen

cheers

Must be a cheaper model

Hi Geof, I may have failed to realise you have an alarm on your model. Might be due to being level 3 or perhaps first owner had it ordered as extra. That will make a little difference to doors etc and also bonnet open. Mine has no alarm, just standard immobiliser via key. (Too tight to option one)! Yeah, you would need to do the deed through the passenger door anyway as the drivers one won't allow the car to be locked if its still open but all others do, including boot. I would advise against sticking the spanner in there though as you will need to connect the battery to re-activate the central locking and thus open the boot! (There is an emergency type method of opening the boot, which entails access to the rear of the car, scrabbling around inside the boot compartment, etc but not a day to day task)!

Also, have you got the maxi-dot display or the common or garden version? Maxi -dot has more features I think, including individual doors opened. Mine has just a general door open warning, meaning a quick check to see if its a door or the boot (Tailgate). NO warning for bonnet open and no cable running to the bonnet catch area, apart from the actual catch release cable.

I'm guessing that the one you have seen is a work light, whereas the one that I bought was an under bonnet work light which is a lot longer - a hook and a magnet on each end with pillars that adjust to suit the angle/light angle.

I'm only guessing that the only reason why there were some left in my local on a Saturday, is due to the fact that the banner with the price was missing, so most people did not chance buying something that they did not know the price of, I was very "daring" and mumbled to wife that if it is £15 I'd buy it, so £20 is not "that" much worse?

Or they are crap, always a possibility with Lidl's "men stuff/toys"!

mrgf, just locking up the way I suggested will work okay, as long as Skoda have these "mechanical" locking function on each of the door. Look for the small soft rubber bungs/grommets at about external handle height on the door edges/end faces.

Changed "edges" to "edges/end faces".

yes i am getting the knowledge that one mans fabia is not another mans fabia..sort of

my 3 level model has a maxi dot  panel as you say...any door open is shown as that particular door, boot is boot and bonnet is bonnet of course...it says fasten seat belt initially...and for the reversing sensors a plan of the vehicle with the two triangles of nearness showing relative to any proximity....the final STOP! distance is about 40 cm...which is close through the rear view mirror..!!

cracking someones front bumper got a claim against me in bristol one winters eve...it was already cracked but their insurers said i cracked it worse...so bad i must admit the filler feller outer...

they called it hidden skull fracture or some other insurance get your money clause...my insurers wanted to fight it but another inspectors opinion would cost more than the repair cost....£300

my insurers called it an incident and only noted it on my policy...i have protected ncb anyway...

no increase in my next years premium...i shop around of course

i got an alarm buzz again today doing it wrong on the battery disconnect and after 2 more attempts narrowed it down to this

pop bonnet

fully lock car

press unlock only once...drivers door only

take off battery connection

lock drivers door with key

wait with baited breath...........no alarm

click bonnet down

what i just discovered with this model which you may have mentioned is the passenger seat elevation lever..

now mrs crow is right up there with me...my seat is at minimum and she is a petite 150 cm

and she now finds it easier to give me instructions on my general driving, whether the road is clear to pull out of a junction and the optional parking spaces available to me as we enter a car park..there's one..no there is another one over there...wait there's one that looks better..these are spread over a large area before me and general bits of visual interest which are not in my discreet driving viewpoint which i have to comment on and remember....:D

cheers

yes its a pretty short one...about a metre at best with funny lights which reminded me of slightly open tulips...

the mains charger is one you would expect to get with a childs toy...and the cable and charging plug likewise

i was not in the market for a workshop one so i made the observation since you mentioned your model..

HELL..you lied to your wife about money and only suppressed the real price by 25%...i usually do a half price reduction...

if its a camera body at £200 i will admit to £120....:D

i just bought her an AIR2 ipad at £330 so she can browse shopping sites and get weather etc...she abhors emails and texts and never puts her non smart-phone on unless we agree to contact each other shopping etc

the AIR2 ipad was handed over with love and a disclosed price of £140...at which she recoiled...you're worth it i said

so it works both ways...

we both are war babies so austerity is in our genes..but its wearing off now after both working for 50 years and 40 years without any breaks and being miserly all that time...the kids got it all for university and houses...

time to feed the economy now..

My wife bought her own iPad Air thing a few years ago with her retirement handout from fellow staff members, she think that she only uses it for a couple of hours a day, but I know that she is glued to it. I must admit for anyone who has an iPhone, picking an iPad over a PC is a no brainer. If she knows that I am looking for info on anything, she can have the answer before my PC has wound itself into action, which is annoying! Her nice red Dell Laptop that I bought her years ago and she used a lot for work related stuff she did at home (teacher) now lies abandoned (her official work laptop, like lots of other teachers, either failed when quite new or got messed up when updated by the official IT  expert - or got lost by them, so was never really an option for doing that work! - the same the world over it seemed.

Edit:- sounds a bit like you will be paying the price for raising your co-driver's seat up, a very bad move in my opinion!

As long as the other half is a co-pilot and not a back set driver, it'll be ok... I have duel control pedals and if the mrs ever hits them during my driving, she will find herself catching a bus home!
