Skoda Octavia internal bike rack

Featured Replies

Thought this pic of the internal Skoda bike rack fitted within my 9/2016 Scout may be of interest. Recently completed 1900 mile round trip through France with both road bikes (front wheels stowed separately) and all luggage firmly secured, the rack works well.

That's interesting, I've been looking into one of these racks.

Out of interest, what size are the bikes that you have in the car and did you need to drop the saddles to  fit them in?

Is there space in there for a third bike?

The bikes are a 58" and a 52". I had to take the saddles off and lower the saddle posts. There is space for a third bike in the Scout however the kit appears to come with only two horizontal extrusions and front fork locks and the rear seat post straps has only two locks. The front brake lever of the 58" bike appears to protrude out of the rear in this photo but does clear the rear window by about 1" when the tailgate is closed.

Thanks for that. I'll have to take a look at one as they look perfect for me.

I can comfortably get 3 bikes in the back of my estate and still leave the smaller rear passenger seat free for use.

Same procedure as illustrated with the front wheels removed and the middle bike facing the opposite way. No rack just a couple of occy straps and a bit of padding to avoid rubbing.

However my wife and daughter's bikes are small road frames and my bike has a tapered down top tube and that enables me to lower the saddle a fair bit. I don't think that large frames with a parallel top tube would fit this way.

For just two bikes that set up is ideal though and certainly more secure in the event of an accident than mine.

Mountain bike are more difficult as the bars are so wide so I tend to put them inside upside down so the handlebars provide some vertical stability.

That must be even more hassle to fit than external bike racks. I dont think I would have the nerves to stack the bikes inside the car, I would just lay them on top of each other in that case.

That's really handy to know. I wasn't sure that there would be enough space for three bikes and keeping a seat up which would be fantastic. Luckily when we go away next month it'll be three bikes and only two people so should be loads of space.

I'm afraid we fill the estate car with luggage and have an external cycle rack when the two of us go on a camping holiday. Even a week away absolutely fills the boot and leaves no room for bikes.
