I am having new car thoughts, Brabus?

Featured Replies

I think its just the badge.

...most of which will probably just be levered off by some local toe-rags. The Brabus air-valve caps are notorious for "going missing", and one guy I know even had the Brabus air intake (basically a scoop on the side of the car) pulled off!

I sat in one of those brabus red ones on Saturday - £17,500!!!! It was stunning though! Not the same red as the usuall smart cars.

Plus........ they only made 50, so get on with it james.

If you need to see one, pop up to Birmingham. (call them 1st)

paddle shift or semi auto u test driving?

Semi auto, but I would be going for the paddle shift if I were to buy one :D

just be carefull on junctions / roundabouts...... there is a delay in power delivery, and lack of 130 little horses to give you a push (160 in your case). Ive had a few "scary" moments in a smart over the past few years.

Plus, a few drivers (bmw cough) tend to pull out in front of you because they know you have less power / speed than them.

Haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if anything here's been said.

I got one of these as a Toy.

SUPERB fun - the Roadster Lite.

Tbh - the brabus just ain't worth the extra.

I paid 7K for a 6mth old 05 model.

lite doesnt come with sport seats or Radio. Not even an electric roof :(

A lack of horses, but half a tonne lighter than the vRS ;)

Mines got sport seats and radio?

Hard top is mucho better anyhoo. The leccy one is not worth the hassle as you still have to remove roof bars

The remap also speeds up the gearchange

Just back from the test drive in a non Brabus Roadster.

What can I say...

What an awesome car, getting in and out of the car is a PITA (apparently there's a nack to it) once sat in it you are litrially sat on the floor, with a steering wheel infront of you. There's little to no space inside the cabin, although with two people in it didnt feel cramped. Not too keen on the interior the plastics and buttons reminded me of my Renault Kangoo work van, but thats only a minor gripe.

What I did like is as your sat in your seat you feel as if your sat in a sports car, great feeling :D

Started up the engine and there's little noise, despite it being mounted right behind your head it isnt loud. It was my first time driving an automatic and boy its strange, where's the clutch gone

Pulled away and I was off, the acceleration is really pokey, obviously it doesnt have the pull of the Fabia vRS, but this is a different kind of acceleration. The engine note under heavy acceleration is gorgeous, wouldnt describe it as 'meaty' or 'throghty' but its more, hmmm hard to explain, just sounds really nice. Despite being a 700cc and the engine being near its limit, it doesnt sound under strain and you dont feel as if your absuing the poor thing, just sounds really solid. A pleasent suprise when changing gear was the noise of the wastegate (I presume) not barry boy in anyway, but adds to the sporty effect. What was also strange is having an engine note come from the back of the car...

The model I drove had the flappy padels behind the steering wheel, its hard not to get excited about them, they feel great lol The gear changing is odd, it would be too harsh to say there's a long drop when you change gear, but its no way as quick as manual gearing, however you forgive it because its great in all other area's :)

Its very apparent your driving a light car when you in it, but it doesnt feel unstable. 80mph feels like the equivilent of 110mph in my car, and during the test drive I didnt exceed 80mph, that felt fast more than enough for thrills, but straight line speed isnt where this car excels...

The cornering, bloody hell, I love my Fabia to bits, but no amount of Eibachs and anti roll bars is going to make the vRS a great handling car. The roadster stuck to the road like glue, infact for the first 15 mins of the test drive I hardly pushed it in roundabouts as I am used to not being able to in the Furby, it was in the latter part of the test drive when I really got a feel for the cornering, truely awesome. I didnt push the car as hard as it could of gone in roundabouts, but I didnt want to push my luck either ;)

I enjoyed having a convertable roof to, not really the whether for it at the moment, but when driving at 70mph I press a button and the roof retracts from over your head, quality

Overall I loved the car, it felt like I was in a proper sports car (despite not really being one), and felt kind of special. I am not sure I could cope with it for long journeys though, the engine note isnt intrusive but I feel it could become dreary at 80mph on a motorway, and also the windnoise is quite apparent at this speed.

I am very interesting and probably will have a look around for one, I am in no rush to get rid of the Furby, and still need to think many things through.

But seriously, great car, huge fun

EDIT: written very quickly before my dinner, so probably riddled with mistakes :D

I am very interesting

As said further up. Get a standard coupe and tune it. I have mine up to 115PS now.

I plan on ripping everything out and use it as a N'Ring car. I don't know what you have for tuners in the UK. Here in Germany there are some very good ones.

A very fun car. Here a couple of links to give you an idea.

http://www.cs-products.de/html/index.html These guys have a outstanding Bilstein built suspension for the Roadster.

So Walkie - did this have anything to do with my post announcing that I had bought one to replace the vRS ??? ;)

Glad you enjoyed it mate - i sure enjoy mine !

Indeed it was, my eyes sometimes need opening to things :D

Very impressived with the car, need to get looking for one now ;)

Mines going up for sale. Needs a service, change of plates (from my personal ones) and some warranty work (NOT leak fix thankfully).

Its a Black roadster cabriolet with soft top, sports pack (16" alloys, paddle shift), safety pack (front fogs, side airbags), air con, and a JVC cd player and infinity speakers in the doors. Its not remapped because i didnt fancy it. Its not about speed, its about corners ;-) - but theres nothing stopping it being remapped.

Reason for sale - 2.0 140bhp DSG GTTDi golf MK5 company car is now mine :)

Tips on how to drive ;-)

1) Preselect your gear in your head about 0.5 seconds before normal, then it wont feel like it lagging :)

2) Dont lift your foot off the acc. pedal - that way you never lose power.

3) Dont lift off coming out of a corner otherwise you will end up facing the wrong way :) - good ol lift off oversteer characteristic of a mid rear drive car :)

4) Wait for the snow...... :D Tesco carpark is usually untouched in the snow and you can get healthy drifts and donuts going in this by turning the traction control off... and you dont wear the tyres :)

5) Ignore the windnoise by turning the stereo up :)

6) it is fine on long journeys. I've done Dover to liverpool in 4 1/2 hours, no stops, and it didnt hurt me one bit. Also got 53MPG return from that 300 mile journey.

7) Give up golf. Roo tried to get some clubs... well one club, into both front and rear boots and it didnt work :). Passenger seat is your best bet for these.

Go for it, i've got an 05 Brabus fortwo and its great for running about in and is a completely different car to drive from normal smart cars dont be put off by the small engine they are pretty sharp, the only thing annoys me is the paddle shift semi-auto box it can hesitate at times but its only a small fault from a great car!!!!!!!!

Indeed it was' date=' my eyes sometimes need opening to things :D

:party: :balloons: yay we can have a mini meet of ex-skoda / current smart owners :)

Incidentally my reservation with the remap was to do with a) being 700cc and B) if you drive it hard you need to prolong the engine / turbo / gearbox life.

If I mod at all it will be to further improve the unbelievable handling (if that is possible)

Looking forward to your updates

OH MY GOD, DON'T DO IT !!!!!!

If you decide to.... Dye your hair blonde (hair extensions), high heels, mini skirt, Get your nails done, get a minature dog for your Gucci bag, wear pink and change your name to Tabatha !

Having driven a normal Smart Car, the 'flappy-paddle' gearbox is not good! It's basically a slow-shifting auto that lets you think you're in control.

Hmm...I've never met a smart owner who conforms to that stereotype!

Would probably attend a few more smart meets if they did though...

I own the car in question and the flappy paddles are good - 95% of the time it is better than a regular manual, and it is 100% than any auto i have driven - all subjective though i suppose.
