VRS tdi Gemini alloy wheels damage

Featured Replies

I've got a PCH & badly scuffed an alloy last night. It's beyond fair wear & tear as defined in the guides.

Anybody know how much cost this would incur if I just left it to the end of the contract?

Or how much would it cost to get repaired & does anyone know of a reputable repairer in Merseyside/ North West?

Many thanks in advance

Repairing it yourself will be cheaper

Not used them (yet) but try www.datechs.co.uk they quoted me £75+ VAT for a damaged 19" Extreme wheel. Looks like they have all the kit and can do it at your place of work/home.

Sounds a very good price, I thought Extreame's needed to go on a lathe if the Diamond edge was damaged.,

Surface skimmed,  ( Wheel painted  if needed )  and lacquered

Yep, they use a lathe, even in their mobile unit. There's a video on their website.

Thanks for that mate.

I've been on the site & it looks really good.

I've been on a couple of other sites which suggest that damage to diamond cut alloys should be repaired asap or the rest of the wheel could deteriorate.

Anyone know if this is true or just bull?

True - the diamond cut sections only have a clear lacquer coating, so water gets behind it and causes discolouration.

Diamond cut wheels can suffer from White worm, Water under the lacquer if not treated.

Gemini Wheels aren't Diamond cut if I remember correctly, so you shouldn't have a problem

There is a place called wheelsmart in Lowton just opposite the Red Lion. I haven't used them myself but I know someone who used them for his BMW and he was happy with the repair they carried out.

Thanks. I just assumed they were diamond cut from the look of them.

Are you maybe thinking of the Pictoris wheels?

On my Ex MKIII Vrs Tdi it had the Silver option Gemini's, I'm sure they were't Dimond cut,

You live and learn

The Gemini was (is?) available in non-diamond cut silver...

^^^^  They were the wheels on my Tdi Vrs Roy  ^^^^

Thanks for clearing that up

These are very smart indeed.

Tempted to have my anthracite 'diamond cut' Geminis re-done in brilliant silver when I inevitably need to have them refurbished! (Mrs Dunc does take the car occasionally......)

My other half scuffed an anthracite alloy, was quoted £150 to repair, she caught the diamond cut and the anthracite. I managed to get a new alloy (through a friend at a bodyshop) for £280. I now have a full size, slightly damaged spare !

I'm not being sexist here but it was my better half who inflicted the damage & this seems to be a recurring theme here!!

That's what I get for having a nice car (& a lease car).........apparently!!:o

Assuming your PCH is through Skoda Finance, it's worth giving them a call to understand the possible costs at the end of term. I did previously (as I also have kerb damage to my Gemini rims) - they told me that costs are likely to be £36+VAT per wheel, but I don't have that in writing (and will do so, prior to the end of the contract!).
