Hosting recommendations?

Featured Replies

Well my host has gone out of business, it always seemed inevitable but they lasted longer than I expected, really (rapidhoster.co.uk) and I have to find a new home for my bits and bobs. Any recommendations for a cheap and cheerful but reliable host?

I don't need very much - currently I have 2 sites hosted on the same server, and although I have a 3Gb/month bandwidth allowance very rarely get anywhere near that. I need php support and mysql would be nice, but not essential.

Thoughts?

I am very happy with www.easyspace.com You can have as little or as much functionality as you want to pay for. If you find you need mysql later you can easily upgrade. Perhaps not as cheap as you are looking for though.

500Mb from £25 per year including free co.uk domain (no setup fee).

Hmmm I already have all the domains I want but could still be worth looking at. Ta.

1&1 I use, not bad for the money - shameless plug if you do go for them please use my referral link ;) - end shameless plug.

There are loads out there, it all kinda depends on what you need, sometimes free webspace from your ISP is perfectly adequate, esp. if you already have domain + DNS control :)

nope free ntl webspace won't do - no PHP support, although I do use it for my family pages.

Any views on US vs UK hosts?

Rather not have all my eggs in one basket. Makes it more hassle to switch ISP if you need to, or to access your site via a different connection if your ISP has problems.

http://www.heartinternet.co.uk would get my recommendation... :D

Or you could have a word with ColD, see if he'd be interested in hosting them for you?

Rob.

Rob yes thanks I do have an account at Heart - they keep sending me emails - will take another look. Re your other suggestion - working on it ... ;)

I can only apologise to Nick for ever recommend RH... I have no idea what gotten into him after he split up with his mrs he went into a downward spiral, never to recover again... Another few to consider are 34sp.com, ArielHosting.com and ColinD.com ;)

lol @ colinD.com

ive got neo-vr.net running on his exobee server at the mo... speak to ColinD see what he suggests.... :)

edit.. just noticed that brisky now runs on exobee too :o

It's a temp move as the other box is now gone...soon to move to a new machine, has dual things multiples of gb and disks that are big and quick.

exobee is crawling along, needs some major tweaking of conf files to handle the 290 odd processes that kicked off over lunch...be back in a bit, off to get nerdy.

Hmm yeah NTL's webspace is still just that - unlike BY which has php support etc. Shame really :(

Hi Nick

are these any good...not sure wether it is cheap or not...but they are reliable

Well I looked around and was so struck by the difference in UK and US prices I've moved over the pond. Might be a rash decision, who knows, but it won't cost a fortune if I change my mind again.

I get :

• 5 GB Space • 250 GB Transfer • 500 Email Accounts

• 10 MySQL Databases • 50 Email Forwards

for $3.16 per month (signed up for 24 months).

The big difference here is diskspace - most UK providers are only offering 100-250MB on their budget plans, and maybe 1GB bandwidth.

So thanks for all the advice - isn't it just typical - ask for advice and then ignore it all. Sorry! :D

For future Reference, sorry i never seen this earlier, my mate Colin runs a Company called Machosting, http://www.macoman.co.uk/ If you need anything else drop him a mail and tell him Waller sent you and he will sort you out with a wee deal ;)

That's a lot more like it! If I'd seen that I would probably have gone for it. Ta.
