Failed aircon compressor advice

Featured Replies

Hi

I've just had my aircon compressor fail on my 76k miles 2012 1.9TDI Octavia.

Nasty belt screech as I pulled out of a parking spot on full steering lock and the air con immediately failed.

I understand the pump is driven from an auxilliary belt but am unsure of the connecting pieces.

I had cam belt changed a couple of months ago then this was the first trip after a major service.

My question is... could the recent belt change and service work have inadvertently caused this to happen only 200 miles after getting the car back from service? or is it likely just a fact of life on a 5 year old 76k miles car?

The recent bills have been a bit painful on a car I've really liked, especially given watching recent precipitous drop in value on Euro 5 diesels and dieselgate.

[BTW I've not had the EA189 service update applied and wont be]

That sounds expensive, as the condenser and the compressor will have to be changed, oh and a good flush out too as metal bit will have got into the A/C system, with out flushing the compressor wont last long.
