Engine cutting out

Featured Replies

My 1.2 HTP engine started to die when I either press the clutch (e.g. when stopping at traffic lights), or when I release it slowly while the engine is in idle (e.g. when parking, used to work fine). The car then takes a few seconds to start (used to start near instantly).

In less than a week the car went from working fine to cutting out once every 15 mins or so.

I see code 16556 logged: "fuel mixture too rich bank 1". No warning lights are lit, so the code could have been there since before this started.

Any suggestions for what to do would be greatly appreciated.

The current battery is still the original, so some 13 years old. Am I right to think there would be a battery-specific error code or a warning light if that was the cause of the engine starting more slowly?

Many thanks.
