Hi kenny, car looks in incredible condition. I really fancy getting into a Mk1 in the not too distant future.

Reason for my post is to see how you got on with the bodywork? Ive got a mk2 estate that also needs the back bumper seeing to and would be great to get a recommendation.

I used Lothian Bodyshop  in Whitburn, they had my car for three days and repaired and painted my rear bumper, painted my passenger mirror cover and fixed a rust spot on my drivers side sill for £350.

Cheers Kenny. I've got a couple of little creases and a patch of poor paint that stands out I want sorting.

Once I've trained my Mrs to put stuff in the boot without dragging it over the bumper I'll pop in and see them. Seems every time I look at it it's got a new scratch.

Audi TT subframe, cast lower arms, hub carriers and 23mm R32 anti roll bar. Just need powdercoated and polybushes fitted, not going for the quick steering rack as it apparently screws up the ESP.

Been a while since any updates, looks like gearbox failure has struck so the Octavia will be parked up for a couple of months. Did look into fitting a six speed gearbox but as per usual it looks quite involved (and expensive) so until I remove the five speed and see whats broken I'm not sure what's next.

That’s a real shame. Will be a bit of a challenge, but as the box has to come out. Could be a chance to upgrade :)

but 6 speed clutches are expensive!

Ross had mentioned I would need to change the starter, clutch and flywheel, clutch hydraulics, mounts, driveshafts and propshaft.

Now that the weather's better I pulled the gearbox out of the car, drained the oil from the transfer box which was fine but the gearbox oil had debris in it including a differential rivet. Currently it's being rebuilt by a specialist, I'll take the opportunity to fit a G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch.

Decided to strip down the rear of the car, brake pipes need replaced and the fuel tank straps have seen better days. Much easier to service the Haldex when it's out the car.

Been a while since I posted any updates, had the gearbox overhauled (£900) The differential rivets had broken and went through the gears making a fair mess, the differential now has bolts fitted and I have a higher ratio fifth gear so it now does 2500rpm at 70mph rather than 3000rpm.

Wow, that was bad luck with the gearbox.

We looked at one just like this with similar miles and in similar condition but the garage had a bloke travelling hundreds of miles to look at it, so there was little chance he wouldn't go home with it, which he did!

I'm looking forward to seeing it on the coilovers!

I run a G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch, been happily running 250bhp for about 50,000 miles now , and still feels ok... sadly my box is OE and car is on 197,000 miles, so I figure my box will eat itself at some point in the near future! (I never do "standing race starts" though! lol)

I bought mines from BR Car Sales in Glenrothes two years ago, only had 50k miles on it.
