Tyre pressure alarm

Featured Replies

Hi, other than partially deflating a tyre is there anyway of checking that the tyre pressure warning system is working?.

Thnx, K

Driving into the very low pressure zone 'eye' of a category 4 or 5 hurricane should do it.

Wait, that's stupid.

You adjust the tyre pressures in the eye of a hurricane and then drive to high pressure area. :)

As it works based on relative Wheel speeds I guess the only way to test it is to let a few PSI out of one of the tyres.

This should give you a warning about the specific tyre which is deflated.

Another way to trigger it is to reinflate your tyres (assuming the pressure have dropped a little) without resetting the system.

If the pressures changed enough, this can trigger a general warning telling you to reset the system.

I get this at least twice a year when I change summer/winter tyres & forget to reset the TPMS.

Yes, I agree, many thanks

It won't tell you which specific tyre is deflated. It's just a general warning that one or more tyres are losing pressure.  You'll have to check them all.

I get specific instructions as to which tyre, got one this morning to advise 'rear passenger side tyre pressure warning'

2015 Octavia Lauren & Klement

I had a puncture a couple of weeks ago, the correct tyre was identified. I have 2014 vRS.

Was impressed as the tyre was not that visibly low, but had couple of screws through the tread.

I amanged to pump it up twice and "limp" home.

In 16 months and 16k miles the TPMS has given me one false alarm and correctly identified a nail in a tyre. Since the false alarm I have invested in a stick pressure gauge to keep in the glove box so that I can check the pressure as a previous poster said tyres don't always look flat when the alarm goes off. I can check to see if I need to change the wheel or can safely carry on.

I stand corrected.

My 2013 SE just gives me a general warning.
