Apple CarPlay and iOS11

Featured Replies

Hi guys, after upgrading to iOS11 I am having trouble connecting to my Fabia MKIII.  Anyone else having issues?  I wonder if resetting all settings on the car and then starting from scratch is the way to go?

Cheers,

JP

Oh bother, has IOS11 been sent out there to see how it works, I think that I'll stick with 10.? until some bugs have been sorted out - if there are some bugs!

What issues are you having?

i have been using iOS11 since the first Beta and have not had “many” issues.

Perhaps you can “forget car” and repair it, that usually helps. And only takes a few seconds.

I've also been using IOS 11 beta for couple of months on iPhone 7. It has always connected to my MKIII Monte but I found some strange phantom disconnecting issues.  I thought it was a dodgy cable but I noticed that when the phone auto wakes (moves around or you pick it up) it disconnects, so have to pull out the cable and re-insert, then the maps are blank so have to go to home screen and back to maps, bit annoying.

I have a protocol ingrained in my muscle memory for connecting my phone, every time I get in the car!:

1. Switch on ignition and start the engine if you want to.

2. On the Bolero Unit, change to Smart link screen and wait until "Starting Smartlink" message disappears

3. Then Plug in iPhone.

4. Bingo.

If I follow these steps, I never have any issues with connection to the phone. If you plug the phone in when "Starting Smartlink" message is still up, it is flaky and won't connect.

These are just my observations but maybe try it?

I always use the exact same steps as Jedispooner and have never had any problems until this week.

The system does not like to be plugged in before the Bolero unit is switched on for some reason. Very flaky.

My audio was silent and then choppy on the first connection on iOS11. I just forgot the Fabia in the Carplay menu on my phone and connected again.

Bingo! Back to trouble free.

Bingo! Back to trouble free.

My process is as follows

open door and get in

connect iPhone

start car and drive off

after 1-min everything is working as expected.

one strange (or intentional) thing I notice, if you leave the phone in the car after your get out and then get back in the car you hear the connection sound on the phone when you sit down on the seat perhaps using the same sensor as the seatbelt alarm?

After reading the above I tried connecting my iPhone which had the IOS 11 update installed

I always have Bolero switched on before connecting the IPhone and had no problems (So far)

So that seems to be the answer.

I do seem to have a recollection that if I connected the iPhone (with IOS10) before turning on Bolero then I did have problems

Might add build date of my car was 20/4/17

Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences!

I am still trying to work it all out.  Forgetting the car and then repairing doesn't seem to work.

I get the message "MIB STD2: The connected device is not supported" on the phone and on the car it says "Connection failed.  Please check whether your mobile device is compatible for use with "Smartlink".

I am starting the car and waiting for it to prompt me before I connect the phone.

It seems that If I leave it plugged in and try to connect multiple times and keep going in and out of the maps app on my phone that it then eventually connects and works perfectly.  I will have to try what mmobile says above and just plug it in a leave it to see if it sorts itself out.

All a bit frustrating as I would rather get in the car and drive away rather than having to spend time faffing with CarPlay to get it working.  Do you think that this is something that Apple will fix in an update or is the problem with Skoda's software?  I imagine that getting an update the the Car's software is no where near as simple as an update from apple!

Thanks everyone! JP

I know it sounds a little stupid. But what cable are you using?

I have had trouble with cheap generic cables.

Try with an official Apple one or one that is MFi certified

Thanks mmobile, I had thought of that - it's an official Apple cable.

An update to the situation:

The only solution seems to be to plug it in and wait.  Sometimes it works straight away and sometimes it will refuse to connect 2 or 3 times but eventually it starts working.  The annoying thing is not being able to set navigation once you get in but the workaround is to set up the navigation on the phone before plugging it in, then when it finally decides to work it will already be set.

Hopefully we'll get some sort of update which will fix this issue!
