Heater Issue - blowing cool up to 24/25 deg setting

Featured Replies

Hi,

Car has recently been in for 70K / 5 Y cambelt change and waterpump at the dealers amongst other things. Since getting the car back (and the weather getting a bit cooler) I don't think the heater is working correctly. It's either that or my memory from last winter is sketchy!

Its an SE with climate control. Water temp solid at 90 once up to temperature. I don't ever use auto mode and only use aircon when its hot or car is steaming up. So directing air to cabin and feet the air is quite cool all the way up to 23 then gets hot incrementally above this. I seem to recall when in manual mode it just did what the settings were set at?

Anyway, been back to dealers today and its operating normally. I chatted with the technician and the heating system has a temperature sensor and will modulate the output temperature based on ambient temperature.

Does anyone know if this is correct? Alternatively, anyone able to do a test on their car and measure the temperature when set as above?

I guess winter is coming and I'll know soon enough!!

Cheers

Ian

The climatronic unit has a temperature sensor on the control panel which it uses to control the output from the heater/cooler. If the detected temperature is higher than the setpoint it'll blow cool. If you set the unit to auto what happens?

basically does the same but puts the aircon on. When you turn up to max it blows hot.

Same with me - feels cold till over 22. But I am sure that it would go warm at 20 if the car was really cold

Personally I love the auto mode - leave it on 20 and very rarely touch it - why don't you like that feature?

I guess I don't like the machines taking control and that it generally runs the AC constantly.

You can run in auto mode without AC if you like. Just hit the AC button to turn it off when you're in Auto.

thanks - I'll give it a go. Big test will be when outside temp drops...

The AC never gets turned off as it doesn't have a clutch.  The compressor displacement can be varied between about 4% and 100%, turning it off just sets the displacement to minimum.  Whether or not 4% is enough to actually provide cooling or dehumidification depends on the environmental conditions.

Not being anal/picky, just pointing this out.

Thanks everyone - my knowledge of how the climate control system works has increased considerably in the last couple of days. I like detail!!

cheers

I have had a concern since I had mine back in 2012. It always seems that I need to turn the temperature up if it's dark. Now I know that sounds mad, but a few years ago, I used to finish work early on a Friday, and had to turn the temperature down travelling home, and back up when travelling when it was dark. Still notice it now when it's very dull. It's almost like the solar sensor is working backwards and sensing dark instead of sun. There are for sure bugs in the software, as I sometimes get it stuck on max heat until I switch the system off and on or the ignition off and on. That said it's been a while since that happened!
