Awaiting delivery of my '06 VRS

Featured Replies

I take delivery of my Silver Fabia VRS next Wednesday on an '06 plate and I can't wait!! I've ordered a completely standard car as I've just sold my previous car (Mini Cooper S) and didn't want to wait for a factory order. And no, I won't be getting involved in the MCS vs VRS debate. However I will say that the MCS gave me 48,500 miles of trouble free motoring and the only money I gave to BMW aside from the original purchase was for windscreen wipers!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to VRS ownership - I used to have a Golf GT-TDI 130bhp a few years ago so I'm aware of the performance of the engine - I am hoping that there will be a performance hike compared to that car though with the fabia being smaller and better suited to brisk driving.

Already thinking of modding the car - is it best to wait until it is run in before starting the mods? Mainly looking at a custom-code remap and possibly eibach and green cotton filter thing.

Look forward to spending more time of the Briskoda boards.

Cheers,

JB

Hi & welcome.

You'll miss the great cornering etc from the MCS, but Eibachs will sort out a fair bit of the handling.

If you get it remapped, you'll want the PD160 air intake which you can buy from a Seat dealer (part nos you should be able to dig out using search, doesnt cost much and it's deffo a DIY job unless a tuner will do it for you for free). Green filter is worth getting too as long as you don't mind cleaning it regularly, depends on mileage I suppose.

In case you go for the seat PD160 intake etc, also consider the strut brace from them, or IIRC Shifty has one for sale at the moment, it will tighten up the steering a tad.

As for running it in - I did, I've now done 30k+ and it's had a bunch of work done to it. Kept the original springs/dampers/SMIC/air intake bits so I can revert the car back to standard if needed, as you can tell from my sig mine will end up pretty modded but I have had no problems with it driving 'normally'.

Make sure you keep the tyres at the right pressure though, front tyres in particular have a LOT of weight on them and even 2 psi will make the car handle like a dog if it's too low.

I'd recommend running it in first before you remap it, but you can certainly fit Eibachs, air intake, green filter, strut without causing problems (IMO)

Interesting switch of cars, what prompted the switch if you don't mind, as the Cooper S seems like a fun one to own? (esp as yours has been reliable too)

WW_VRS, thanks for your reply and your advice. I will consider fitting the Eicbachs and filter/intake ASAP. Is there a "one-stop-shop" where I can get all these fitted as when it comes to engines and mechanics I don't know my ar$e from my elbow! :o

Switch of cars is purely for economical reasons. I bought the Mini with my heart even though I knew I'd be covering a lot of miles and I did 48,500 in less than 23 months so I decided it was time to use my head and get a diesel. Looked around at a few - Golf 2.0 TDI and the Ibiza Cupra TDI but decided the Fabia VRS was the best bang per buck and the modding capabilities are always nice! To be honest I normally keep my cars standard as I think its makes resale much much easier but this time I have decided to tweak the Skoda so that I can have fun on my daily commute.

One thing I am considering is a Dension Ice Link as I also had one in the MCS - I prefer the cradle option on the passenger side but was wondering if this would get in the way of the cup holder in the Fabia?

Cheers,

JB

Bought mine one a GB here with regards the green filter and the Eibach springs/dampers, then vrstu fitted them for me.

Basically the tuning companies listed on the site will be able to help you out, AMD/Jabba/JBS just to name a few but there are several more.

I'd go for one near to where you live if you can, just easier that way. You can get a generic remap done by virtually all the tuners that will be less highly tuned but may keep your clutch in one piece for longer. A custom remap will probably give you clutch slip quite soon, you'll have to drive around it and it will be fine.

Not up on the Dension Ice Link but fairly sure Fabia 12V had one, if not there are others in the ICE section that will be able to help I hope

Rob_Kent, what colour have you ordered? Have you ordered any options? Have you bought from dealer or from broker? I ordered my through drive the deal - superb service so far. They use Simpsons Skoda in Colne (Lancs) as their dealer.

Bizarrely I have to wait for a completely standard silver one, (Only until the 8th) as the 3 my local dealer had available for the 1st all have Cruise and Auto-changers! this is my second one so I must like them…Hope you enjoy yours.

Welcome..... mine's already in the dealers (Jewsons Skoda, Oxford) awaiting 2nd March, a day off work. This is my second vRS, and will almost replicate the first. Cruise control, Xenons, rear parking aid etc. Have dropped the auto-changer, but added ESP and leather seats. Chose the dealer option - more expensive, but I know where to go and whinge !! Will be remapping again after a few thousand miles. Used AMD last time, maybe again, maybe not - they're very pricey. This dealer has been pretty good by me, sensible prices and no complaints at all.

Have done >55,000 miles on first one in 21 months. Has needed italian clutch de-glazing from time to time, and cruise control is a little intermittent when cold now....... and that's it.

Brilliant.

Roger,

What is italian clutch de-glazing?

Car spec sounds fantastic! No wonder you're looking forward to it!! What have you done with your old car? Is it a trade-in for the new one or have you sold it privately?

Cheers,
