For those of us with the alloy sump guard...

Featured Replies

...It pays to keep an eye on it!

I nearly lost mine on the drive in to work this morning. Was hearing some strange sounds going round corners and a definate metallic scraping sound when driving over humps.

Turns out it's now only supported at the front and is drooping at the rear.

Next time it's dry or you have the chance to stick your furby up on a lift, may be worth checking the bolts holding it in place!

Every screw should have had Thread Lock applied to them on installation.

Mine has been fine since fitting... Still rock solid.

I took the opportunity to get rid of the security fastenings they supplied and refit some stainless steel bolts.

Had visions of the dealers not having the correct tool if they needed to get it off.

Security fastenings?

Mine came with allen bolts.

Yep. Mine were the type with the nipple in the centre.

Oh! That's crazy! Not many people have those tools.

If we do another GB, I'll make sure they don't supply these screws.

Anyone else get these, or was it a one-off?

Another option may be to drill through and put a clip under the nut, assuming the bolt is sufficiently long?

Correctly torquing the screws woul dhelp too - but you cant beat loctite ;)

Hi Josh

Does the sump guard have to be removed to drain the oil

or replace the oil filter ???????

Thanks in advance

Yes, in the same way that the plastic one needs to be removed to do the oil change.

It fits in exactly the same way, apart from 3 additional screws at the front of the car.

Josh mine came with them too just for your info

Hmph. Sorry about that guys. I expected them to supply hex/allen heads like mine.

Have the torx screws come out Xav?

The only thing I could see happening was the weight of the panel pulling the metal inserts out of the subframe going along the back. No amount of Loctite will help if thats the case.

Sorry it seemed to have happened shortly after I serviced it. Would like to know if its my fault.

To be fair, I don't know how long mine has been in the sagging position. Maybe I went over the bumps slightly quicker this morning and so they scraped very lightly.

I need to check on the torx screws. By the time I came out from work, it was dark, cold and soaked road. I'll try and have a look tomorrow morning.

Ross, don't worry about it, I'm not insinuating anything :) But I just want to sort it out before it falls out at high speed, doing massive damage. :o

Sometimes I think I need to invest in a pair of axle stands

Right, it's official, I'm going  :o

I had a good look this morning before driving to work, and it's still there, properly installed with every bolt in place holding it up correctly    I could have sworn it was drooping yesterday.

I must get off the drugs :P

So apologies for - hopefully - uselessly worrying everyone. Mine appears to be firmly on
