Dealers window trim replacement issues

Featured Replies

Anybody had their chrome window trim dealt with by a dealer and pleased with the work? I had mine done on Friday and it looks pants, and they didn't wash 'n' vac it (which they said they would), and they marked the rear wing.  Also it may have been very windy this morning  but I was getting a whistling sound in my right ear, pretty sure I never had that before

Noticed my chrome trim is slightly misaligned at the drivers door.  As if its pulled away from the door itself.  Is this a warranty issue?

Mine is a 2016 model and the problem has been both drivers and passenger doors force the rear doors chrome trim out at times, through the summer it was a regular occurence, it pushes back in but the drivers side ended up with a slight kink.

It was a known problem on early models put right at first service, the fix seems to be move the front trim further forward and cut away the interior door seal.
It looks a botch job, I'll upload some photos when I get the chance.

Am I being anal about this? looks like a botched job to me.  Inside they've just taken a Stanley knife to it and outside looks even worse with the rubber window trim not seated properly and generally just looks a mess.  Anybody else had any experience?

What a complete mess,

I'd be going back to the dealers, jumping up and down and having a massive rant,

Bodge!. Go back and ask them to show you the TSB that instructs that type of action. As far as I know there are 2 TSB to do with wind noise and the chrome trim.

I hadn't noticed the chrome trim issue on my MY17 but did have it fixed under a tsb on the MY15. I did have a wind noise which sounded like either the driver or rear passenger window was partially open.

Car was with dealer last week and they have fixed the noise. There is still some buffeting but the same on both front sides so within spec I suspect. Cetainly not an issue for me anymore.

I was told what they had done but was driving at the time and didn't make notes. I do recall they worked on both the driver and rear passenger door. Something about seals folded over and another fitted too far forward.

I forgot to pick up the paperwork but I will see if I can get a copy for the detail and will post.

The misalignment looks the same as mine although my rubber trim isnt as messy as that.

Seems like this is a common issue.

WTF have they done there? You've got to expect a more professional job than that. Have they just left it to the teaboy to sort out?

that's what mine is like and it has now separated and moved rearwards again pulling off the rear chrome trim.

can somebody post pictures of a good repair so we know what to look for please?

That's outrageous!  They have butchered it, only problem is you now have to go back to them.

That is shocking! Take it back and demand it be put right by someone who is competent.

DM Keith's by any chance?

Lookers were the culprit, but I avoided DM because of a friends previous problem with them with his Seat.

To be fair to Lookers the good news is I sent the photos to the service manager (to avoid a rant in the showroom) and in his own words he 'winced' when he saw them. They are discussing what they can do to put it right, when they do I'll post the pictures.

That's good that they've recognised it's poor although it must have surely been signed off by someone as acceptable in the first instance. I'd be starting with replacing the rubber trim. The metal work looks ok. Is there a scratch on the inside of the door where they've butchered it or is just reflections?

Hope it's resolved soon before it starts raining more often.

No damage to the inside just the reflection, but they couldn't even be bothered to wipe away excess sealant.

Well Sir, I am amazed, they fixed my 230 and I couldn't have asked for a better service, a 110% First Class service.

The problem may lie in the fact that Ford Technicians work on the Skoda's as there isn't many Skoda techs at the dealership, not an excuse I know.  I also think that Skoda take the back seat as it's mainly a Ford dealership. I'm on very good terms with the service manager, if you need anything finding out PM me.

I agree Ford and Skoda is a strange fit and they do seem a bit of an afterthought, although the forecourt for used cars is heavily dominated with Skoda's.  I'll bear in mind your connection with the SM and let you know - Thanks
