Can I use VW spares on my Skoda?

Featured Replies

If you got a map of the UK, and placed a pin smack bang in the middle of the land mass, then it would most probably be located just a few miles from where I live! Unfortunately this area appears to remain undiscovered by Skoda, the nearest dealership is over 20 miles away. In the next few days I'll be requiring an Oil Filter and Sump Plug and really don't want to drive out of my way to get them. The last time I changed the oil, the 2 items required were listed as -

SN90813201 PLUG (He was a Bash Street kid )

S071115562A OIL FILTER

And when it was serviced by the dealer :dung: .......

S074115562 ELEMENT (Oil Filter I guess, but different part numbering!)

They just sucked the oil out of the filler  hence no Bash Street Kid required!

As I have a Volkswagen dealership in the local town, would it be possible for me, armed with the part numbers above, to obtain an oil filter and sump plug from them? I'm assuming that all TDI PD 130's are exactly the same whether they eventually end up in an Audi, VW, SEAT or Skoda. I recall the last time that the Oil Filter packaging (thoughtlessly discarded) was printed with all the VAG logos (except Lamborghini, Bentley, and Bugatti :D).

I could always phone them to find out, but thought this thread may be useful to other members that survive in the Skoda wilderness.

Thanks

Yes, I've used a VW dealer for the last 4 parts I've bought for the Octavia.

I guess the parts you've previously obtained are all engine consumables?

Nope, rubber hoses and a mass-airflow meter (MAF)

Just tell them its for a Skoda and it'll be fine.

An easy way to tell is to ring the parts dept. and ask for a price and availability on some part numbers ;) They may hold them in stock if you're lucky.

your complaining that its 20 miles to your nearest skoda dealer, try 40 miles, coz thats my nearest.

Dean of Dumfries, 26 miles away, and you also have 3 VW dealerships, offering both parts and servicing facilities, all within 26 miles of Kirkcudbright ;¬)

They will have the same parts in stock service wise as Skoda, no worries using them.

Most of my fabia parts have VW stamped all over them anyway lol

Ok I've only noticed two that I can remember but I haven't really been looking :)

I use a very helpful VW main dealer in Dudley, they can look up all the part numbers for Skoda and so far all the bits I've got from them have been alot cheaper than the skoda dealers prices, they are genuine VW group parts as well. Postage rates are very fair too, recently bought an Oil filter element, Air filter and pollen filter and the total postage was just over £1. Oil filter cost me £3.99.

I can look up their details tomorrow when back at work if anyone is interested. Found them on ebay advertising VW spares but just phoned them direct.

I nearly popped to a Seat dealer when mSkoda told me the CV would be 2 weeks away.... I then realised that Seat are likely to get the bits in using the same system anyway, so decided not to bother.

But I have used both Seat & VW for parts. All one happy family. :)

All the parts come into the UK at the same place in the midlands.

Aha. Do you know what the parts lady meant when she said Skoda were having to "mill" the CV joint. I might have misheard her, but it sounded like some form of back order system. Not to worry now though, I have a driveshaft complete now anyway.

Usually things are VOR'd if you need them next day.

vw garage ( specialist cars in kdy) told me they arent allowed to reprogramme my audi key anymore.

They are allowed to sell me other parts but not keys dont know why

I had a similar chat with the same garage about setting up a new dashpod in my fabia, they werent interested, had to go all the way to Bannockburn

i've found forthway seat to be 10 times more helpful which is wierd cos when i had a metro they were the rover dealer and they were next to useless.

there workshop isnt as shiney as specialist cars and the fact they sell dawoo chevrolet things and hyundais scares me but so far theyve been great

Every part I've got from mine, be it from a Seat, VW or Skoda dealer has come in packaging with all 4 of the VAG logo's on. You'll be fine
