Need some Columbus RNS510 advice

Featured Replies

Looking for some help for a colleague in a non Skoda

he has a 13/14 plate Passat with a DAB head unit and wants to fit a RNS510. What is involved exactly?

Looks like the new unit will just bolt in he also has MFSW and Bluetooth already.

Considerations I believe are needed

1. A GPS aerial of sorts

2. Some VCDS work

Thanks in advance.

New unit pictures and old one also shown for reference.

The current unit is a RCD310 if it helps

RCD310 removed, gps antenna stuck under the dash somewhere. Connect up the RNS510 and reinstall. Coding with VCDS to enable controller 37 Navigation, and then coding that controller to suit the cars configuration.

About 10 minutes work.

Thanks @Rustynuts much appreciated. So he already had everything for Bluetooth, DAB to make all the functions work, is that true?

How about a GPS aerial ?

What do you refer to about car specific coding, such as ?

Do you know any members in Bedfordshire that know how to perform these VCDS tasks ?

If he had Bluetooth and DAB before then he'll keep those functions I presume. If he didn't have them then DAB will need an antenna, and Bluetooth will need a Bluetooth kit.

Car specific coding? The RNS510 needs to know what functions your car has so it can send data to them. The car needs to know you have a navigation unit fitted so that it can send the correct data back for that to work correctly (wheel speed sensors etc to aid navigation etc.) Some people will tell you it's plug & play. They lie... It might not need much coding work at all, but what it needs should be done correctly.

GPS aerial? A fiver off Ebay usually (Fakra GPS antenna), or I sell them but postage makes it less cost effective really.

I don't know any VCDS users in Bedfordshire I'm afraid.

Thanks again a lot clearer now what's needed.
