Door electrics problems after removing door card

Featured Replies

Can anyone shed any light on an odd problem I have after taking the door trim off a 64plate Superb 3T this morning ?

I changed a faulty speaker and now have very limited electrics on the passenger door.

The door  locks/unlocks from the key and from the driver's door switch- but not the passenger door switch.

The window works from the driver's door switch but not the passenger switch.

The red puddle light doesn't work now.

The little LED for the interior door handle doesn't work.

The mirror works fine- the folding, tilting, direction indicator and the white light on the underside are fine.

And the speakers work fine.

I didn't disconnect the battery before I started work, stupidly ,but I have disconnected since to see if that resets anything- it didn't . All that did was hive me warning errors about the steering and stability control. Driving it has cleared those but I still have no joy with the rest.

I don't think I have  broken wires because power seems to be getting to the door but it's possible.

Is there anything I can do? Is there a reset that some-one knows ?

As it's my wife's car I'm not going to hear the last of this so I hope i's a simple fix!

Thanks

Graeme

Forget to plug anything back in? There's a heap of multi-plugs in there and it's easy to overlook one or two of them.

Another problem often reported is cracked wiring between the body and the door - all your work today may have dislodged something enough to break a marginal connection.

Chimaera- thanks for the inspiration. I've just been back out and taken the door trim off again to check for the things you suggested. I couldn't see anything amiss - no broken wires, no missing connectors. This time I took the puddle light out of the door trim and connected it up as a sort of test lamp as I set about waggling all the connectors. Nothing really until I pulled on a section of the loom as it entered the master control unit and hey presto! It lit . And everything else works as well now.  Funny thing is It took me about 20 minutes in total whereas the same job took me all morning earlier in the day. It did involve a lot more tea this morning, though.

I'm finding it increasingly easy to 'blame the electronics' with these cars and ignore the basics.

Thanks again.
