2L TSI MPG questions

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting myself a FL octy as London is banning my stinky diesel in 2019/2020 or something like that.

What kind of MPG/MPL to you get in your 2.0 TSI with a DSG?

What kind of driving style and trips are you making?

For those who take their car to europe - figures for cruising at 80mph and 95mph would be useful benchmarks as well please.

I'm currently using a diesel which gives me between 40 and 50mpg for my motorway trips. Wondering how much of a hit it is if I take the petrol.

As it stands I'm doing between 10 and 16k miles/year.

Anyone also got a remap with a DSG box? how did it go?

I average 40 on a run, 30 round town on my 12 mile round trip to work. The commute MPG was the same as my Fiesta TDCI due to the thing never warming up, though now I have the extra power to play with.

Mine has Shark stage 1 engine and stage 1 gearbox remaps, the engine was mapped when I purchased it but I had the box done this summer and it makes all the difference.

Same as above for me. TSI VRS DSG estate. Had it showing 44mpg or something on a long and steady motorway run, but generally averages to about 32mpg ish over a tank (10 mile commute, traffic etc)

Short trips late 20s, long runs early 40s, anything else somewhere in between. Economy starts to drop off above 75mph. Above this I'd expect a motorway run in the low to mid 30s.

Read up on chain cam tensioner failure though before you commit to getting one. My MK2 FL also drank oil for fun but that's a lucky dip on the car you get.

thanks @ahenners A really good response.

I know about the tensioner failures and thought that there are revised parts out there to fix this. Do they still fail? :o

The oil consumption thing was fairly new, though my 1.9tdi uses a few 100ml every few thousand or so, but wasn't expecting so much with the petrol.

I'll be honest.. I just really like the look of the mk2 FL and like it's a little more spacious for rear passengers than the mk1.

Being practical about the whole thing - I'll try to run my current car into the ground first and try to save a bit more in the interim.
