Skoda Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI Remap

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am new here, and a new Skoda owner. I’ve used Passat before, and now I got Skoda Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI 140HP. I am interested to gain more power, and this is done by ECU-remapping (as i’ve read from google). Since I am a new Skoda owner, I want to ask you guys: have you done a remap on your Skoda with same characterictics as mine, and had any problems? What are the pros and cons?

Would love to hear your responses.

Kindly yours.

When I had my Octavia with that engine I got it remapped. A good remap will get you around 170-180 bhp, and the same sort of increase in torque.

It makes the engine more useable and the car can be more enjoyable to drive as well.

I had some problems dying the time it was remapped, but I could not tell you if it was just one of those things or if the remap caused it. Firstly I had a gearbox blow out on me. I lost some gears and had to limp it home. I also had some turbo seals go. At times it sounded like there was a police car about to come past.

On another plud I'd guess that maps have improved since then as this was all over 10 years ago now.

You also have the option of a tuning box instead of a remap and is removable at any time.

Yes, that’s why I am concerned, the cons. I’ve read that the mechanical parts can wear faster, and a lot of problems may arise. But in the other hand, more HP can give me what I want/need. I am not the type of the guy who pushes the car to the limits, but those extra HP definately helps you when overtaking.

I forgot to mention that my car is with automatic gearbox DSG.

The engines are designed to handle more power than it comes with.  Selling an engine at even close to it's maximum bhp potential on a car like the Octavia is bad engineering as there would be a higher component failure than should be normal.

I am just one person who had problems, I had chosen a rather conservative map as I wanted reliability and smoothness.

Yes I had problems, but were they the fault of the remp, or would they have happened anyway? I did not thrash the car around, so it was not abused. It was just one of those things.

Previously I had a fabia vrs that I had also remapped and that was fine, and my partner had also had a remapped fabia vrs in the past that had no engine problems either.

With regards to the dsg, the torque output of the engine can be set so it does not damage it,  even the software of the dsg can be remapped to improve that too.
