Climatronic blower issue

Featured Replies

Evening all. I have been having problems with the heater motor in my 12 plate Octavia vrs. Started after a major service at the dealers where the fan would not run when turned on. The panel lights up and the climatronic display comes up on the screen but nothing happens. Occasionally the fan would run but recently it's packed in. This evening I replaced the fan motor unit after plenty of searches on this forum suggested that was the issue but the same thing happens, turn it on lights come on display works but no fan. All wiring looks good no fuses blown. Anyone got any ideas? With it getting colder I really need the heating working.

What about the heater resistor unit , they can stop working and let the motor work only on full blast or not.

Basic fault finding will tell you if the switch is OK and if the power is reaching the motor itself.

The new unit I fitted came with a new control unit.  I believe that the climatronic version I have doesn't have a resistor unit but instead a control unit that can automatically vary the fan speed.  I am thinking there is a problem with the actual dash unit not sending out the correct signal or a wire issue somewhere.

I'm having issues with my FL - the fan runs but all flaps seem to close and so car mists up. Anyway, just come across the climatronic reset procedure : ignition on, then hold ac and face level vent button at same time, until the LED's flash. Can't hurt to try that.

Tried checking the wiring to the blower unit today. I could only check two wires from the control unit to the fan motor. The wires I checked looked like power wires one was red one brown and both showed continuity. The other two wires in the fan motor plug seemed to disappear up behind the dash and I couldn’t track them to check them. Think I will just let the dealers sort this issue out spent too much effort on it and not really got anywhere.

Worth checking ALL the fuses, I had a similar problem with a pre FL when the fan wouldn't run. Checked the fuses for the fan and supplied it with separate feed and all OK.

Further checking revealed a seized flap motor causing a 5amp mini fuse to blow once replaced them the heater fan worked again. The joys of modern electronics.

I will give that a try. When you say you supplied it with another supply what do you mean/how did you do that?

Couple of jumper leads direct to the motors terminals to confirm if  the motor was working. Its easy to identify which terminals to use just look at the large red and black cables on the multiplug and connect red to positive and black to earth.

If the motor works the problem must lie else where.

If you carry out a climatronic flap reset, information on this on this can be found in the forum. You should hear and see the motors cycling if they OK  if not gives you something to check.

My faulty motor was the one directly across from the fan motor so easy to see with the clove box etc out, however there are a number of others.
