Instrument cluster in the dark (mostly)

(I am posting all the problems today)

Instrument cluster lights not happy - as you can see:

Speedo mostly dark, needle on the rev counter also dark. Not a fuse or anything simple as current is obviously getting there. 

From reading the forums, this doesn't look good - as in, a dealer job and costly. Are there other options? I can see a few places online that fix clusters but they are nowhere near me and I don't fancy trying to remove something so central and packaging it up for parcelforce.
