Skoda Pickup to leave this mortal coil

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Not been about for a while what with living life etc. But I thought I'd better let you all know the bad news that I am allowing my Felicia Pickup (marked as "Top Secret Resto Project" in my profile) to go for scrappage on a new Fabia for SWMBO to run back and forth to work in.

The Pickup was originally taken up by my Dad who sold it on to an old man out in the country. He had it until about three years ago when he sold it on to someone intending to restore it. Unfortunately it sat for a year nearly untouched and was advertised locally when I spotted it, again with the intention of restoration.

Initially I couldn't get anyone interested in doing the bodywork for me. I'm not much use welding and don't have the facilities to tackle that kind of work either. I finally got a couple of guys to at least come and look and one willing to give it a proper assessment for viability earlier this year with not a very good outcome. They all concluded the rust had gone too far to save. I was left with the question of what to do with it.

Then the scrappage scheme appeared and answered the question. So here we are now. Dad is hoping to be able to take it away south and so bring the Pickup's story full circle. I'm a little disappointed I couldn't do more for it but life gets in the way sometimes and there's not much you can do about it.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry to hear that but at least you have found a use for it other than scrapping it for peanuts!  They were made solely for utilitarian use and never meant to last anyway which is sad because they are very useful vehicles, why vag haven't made a modern equivalent I don't know.

Im on my second pickup the first was a multi owner high mileage beater the front end and sills were rotten but the load bed was mint, I only got rid because the engine let go and it was cheaper to buy another.  I now have a tidy one owner pickup one year older low mileage but has been welded on the rear turret tops in the past.

From some research I see you can still buy the rear panels in Czech but very difficult to get them delivered to the uk.

All the best, Graham

They did. The VW Caddy. Sorry, no Skoda. VW overpriced cars wouldn't sell anymore. The same as with Felicia. A modern Felicia made by Czechs would kill the Golf and the Polo sales.

They do the Caddy van but there is no equivalent sized pickup sold here in the UK. The number of people I have spoken to about the Pickup that comment on this fact as well is amazing.

You are right. The market moved towards bulkier, heavier trucks.

car-derived pickups are very practical (often more so than larger trucks for small to medium sized goods) because their tailgates drop to the kerb. This is very handy as goods can be loaded from the kerb straight into the bed. I have two Fun pickups (UK), never going to sell them and on the look out for another! :)
