Cornering Fog lights vs Dynamic Cornering

Featured Replies

Oh!

I've missed crucial point, the topic owner is talking about FL car and LED headlights!!! If I recall in the dealers, when we played with a FL it really seemed to move beam only up and down during initialization, but not cornering. :) Looks like all is fine with this car.

Octy F/L has LED, these lights do not "steer" like the Xenon's do (I had a Yeti prior to F/L Vrs octy). I presume it's because the beam spread is much wider than Xenon's. The octy certainly lights up the side of road more than the yeti's Xenon's did.

Yet I still have the menu option for dynamic cornering lights which seems to make no difference to the beam pattern? I realise I've got the LED DRLs, but honestly thought I'd got the Xenons (oops...! :o). Just checked the PN on the headlight unit as 5E2 941 016D.

Thanks to all contributors so far. I'm learning a lot about these modern newfangled cars. It's generations removed from my old Mk1 Fabia!

Afaik the dynamic cornering lights are the fog lights which come on when turning a corner below a certain speed (e.g pulling into a drive)

Those had to be activated via VCDS. Maybe I'm expecting too much from the AFS with LED headlights compared to Xenons.

Not sure how other FL headlights work, but the Full LED headlights on the SE-L have cornerning function, although its not as obvious as pre-FL xenons or a fog light turning on or off.  There is a small extra LED bulb that turns on, within the dipped headlight housing.  Very hard to see the actual LED but it is there and if you look carefully, you can see the edge of the dipped beam get brighter at slower speed and when cornering (30mph ish)

I've got the dynamic lights on my superb, you have to be moving for them to work. It's only the main lamp units that move, the fogs are fixed. Cornering fogs just illuminate the direction you're turning, the lights themselves don't move.

There's another thread where someone posted useful videos of the FL LED cornering feature in action:

As others have mentioned the headlight beam itself doesn't move like it does with the pre FL Xenons, there's simply additional LEDs which have a different beam height/angle to provide the corner lighting.

I don't think it works quite as well as the dynamic cornering of the Xenons that move. In a way the additional cornering LED feature does seem pretty similar to the cornering Fog feature in beam pattern, though they are 2 distinct, separate functions.

@wg100 cheeky ask but do you have or can point me towards the coding to activate the ‘menu option’ for dynamic cornering lights please.

Also will the cornering lights work in Auto mode or just with dipped selected. Manual suggests dipped only. I also thought they came on during the daytime when the steering wheel was turned or the directional indicators were turned on but the manual would seem to state otherwise. See attached...

Can anyone advise on this please.

Cheers guys.

To be honest, I only notice the cornering function at night when the dipped headlights are on anyway. I always leave the light switch in Auto.

I can't recall where I found the coding to get the menu option. I can't look at the car as it's back in the garage for a while. I'll try to remember to have a look when I get it back.

@wg100 would much appreciate that if you could and do
