First impressions of the VRS

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd give a quick first impressions of my VRS tdi. It's a 2016 white manual hatch.

So it was delivered with just over 9k on the clock and I have just completed about a thousand miles in it over the last 2 weeks. And first impressions are very Good!

Now I have had some fairly nice new cars in the last few years but this is by far the best. The power delivery is lovely, goes well when pushed but really refined at other times. The way it pulls through the gears is amazing, no need to redline gears or race through the box, having come from a 1.6tdi golf it feels like a rocket ship!! I have achieved an indicated 48mpg on mixed driving, numbers at the pump are pretty much the same is good. I have no squeaks or rattles to report from the interior either. I have had some VCDS tweaks by the amazing waytootall including the throttle mod.

I think a dtuk box will be on my wishlist in the future but for now I will leave as is.

Glad I chose the Skòda

We have just had another baby so can't justify spending it just yet. Does it make a big difference? I already struggle to get the power down In 1st and 2nd without it wheelspinning! On the standard potenzas at the minute. And it's a company car so not sure how my new boss would feel about me adding a box to it. I could just not tell him but then I have the insurance issue.....

Get a box. 10 minutes at the most to fit.

Youll love it. It feels like a different car.

Same here mate, ive had mine 5 weeks and im really pleased with it, what is the upgrade youve had done to yours?

I've had high beam assist, cornering fogs, boot lock delay, auto dst (clock updates), comfort indicator increased to 4 blinks instead of 3 blinks and the throttle mod. The throttle mod just makes it bit more responsive. I think that was it.

If you dont mind me asking where did you get the mods done and how much did it cost?

Cheers

I kindly spoke to a chap on here who has the VCDS wizardry on his laptop. He simply plugged it in and worked his magic. There is a VCDS map on the forum here showing who has the equipment and where abouts they are. You just need to drop someone a line and let them know what you want. As for price, that's something you will need to discuss with them when you message them. Where abouts in the country are you?

Im in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire

If it's leased and you mod it and they find out you might be left just holding a P45. Lease cars are the property of the leasing company and I'll bet your car and my car they won't permit it, in which case, in addition your employers insurance won't cover you. This is one reason why you should always take the car allowance!

It's not leased, the company gave me a budget and they just bought the car outright. Either way I'm pretty happy with it at the minute. I do a lot of motorway miles and it's more than sufficient for that.

Car allowances are usually pretty poor. Last company I was with offered 4k a year. Not a great deal of cars to be had on a budget of that size.

Fair enough. You need to include your BIK burden on top of the car allowance to make a true cost comparison.

Yeah I know, 4k is still peanuts.

The thing to remember with the car allowance option, is the mileage expenses on top.

If the company pays the HMRC rates that is 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles then 25p per mile.

If the company pays less than these rates you can reclaim the tax you have paid on the difference, so if the company pays 20p per mile expenses, you can reclaim the tax paid on 25p per mile for the first 10,000 and then the tax paid on 5p per mile.

If you do a lot of miles, this can really add up.

Yeah that is true. I've never had the opportunity to have a decent allowance so never really gave it much thought. The fact I have a VRS company car is amazing though! Fuel card, new tyres when needed and fully serviced is one less thing to have to worry about

Unfortunately, if you do over 10k then that reduction to 25p isn't a huge amount to cover fuel + all the maintenance, insurance etc. that would otherwise not be your problem. All depends on the allowance given to supplement it.
