Fabia vRS - bringing down 0-60 times

Featured Replies

hope this isnt too mcuh of a repeatedly asked Q. i have had a browse to check for it.

What would you consider to be the best ways to bring the 0-60 for the vRs down to about 6-7 secs without jeapordising the cars reliability. (or is this a mere fantasy) Im interested in a variety of methods of doing this so i can pick one any hard data you have would also be welcome.

THanks for your time in advance guys.

Selling it and buying a car more suited to 0-60 times of 6-7secs would be your best bet.

remap.

Beat me to it!

lol fair enough. was just curious if it could be done.

It's a turbo diesel.

These things don't have killer 0-60 times. They will however walk all over most things for 30-50 and 50-70 times due the the massive amount of torque on offer for the engine size.

Yup - By bringing down 0-60 times, you jeopardise reliability to a point. However the TDI block is pretty solid, as are most of the components, so pushing up toward 200bhp is pretty safe. You can forget about engine warranty though once you start fiddling though. ;) Main performance things though are (going through system):

Cupra Air Intake

Performance Air Filter

Big Turbo

Front Mounted & Vented Intercooler

LPG inlet manifold injection

Uprated Injectors

ECU Remap

Exhaust system

Uprated injectors is my next planned mod, but a way off yet. :)

true. I was curious cos i know SACK all bout modifying cars although i know what i like. The word tasteful generally comes to mind although thats more an external than internal thing. not really hugely bothered with the 0-60 the car appeals to me with its off the shelf qualities enough to buy it when the time comes anyway.

It's not the best car for 0-60 (or zero to higher, for that matter).

In-gear performance is excellent though.

Remap will help but you won't get much below 7 seconds unless you spend tons of cash.

I'd agree with walkie - may be better getting a hot hatch with petrol (turbo ideally) instead.

I shan't give you the finger for that as you actually made me laugh! :D

I got about 15 mph though whilst being towed off the strip.

Chris

It did :P

Think it was a bit more - mind you were being towed by a Rapid.

Just proves the fastest car doesn't get there the quickest.

Ahhh, I got 15mph while being towed by the pick-up, then 20mph being towed by the Rapide.

Felt quite amusing that the oldest Skoda there had to drag one of the new ones back to the pit.

embarrasing i bet?

Hard pushed to get 6-7 secs with a sooped up 3.2 litre Vectra puhing 240 bhp+

Easy to get 5 seconds in a bog-standard Scooby turbo :D

Chris

A remapped one will do around 7 secs... but lots of cash needs to be spent to get it under 7.

I think mine will do it in 7 dead being very unsymapthetic to the poor thing. :o

If 0-60's are your thing, the vRS really isn't suited to it.

Ahhhhhh, yes but at what cost when you take into account that your Scooby needs servicing twice (or more) as frequently as a 'normal' car, drinks very special unleaded (super+) and does appalling mpg?

Not least that you are 3 times as likely to be pulled by the police, even when you are just going about you daily grind and that every **** in the neibourhood is just itching to break into it or dare you into beating them off the lights just for fun?

No offence intended, just an observation!:)

Irrelivent of the above, a Subaru WRX/STI can do 0-60 around the 5 second mark.

But you are no more likely to be pulled by the police unless you are breaking the law. Service intervals at 10k EXACTLY the same as the vRS, it's permanent 4WD so yes it drinks more fuel, but you get better 0-60 times, in gear acceleration times, top speed and it's equally as good in the wet, and has a lot more kudos than the vRS ever could, it doesn't need to be modified to do 0-60 in those times either and has everything you need to get the job done straight from the factory (brakes, suspension, engine, transmission).

It is also more spacious and faultlessly reliable. And with the money you'd save modifying your vRS to do 0-60 in 5 seconds, you could use towards fuel & insurance which I agree isn't it's strong point.

But this is going off topic, they are two completely different cars.

Back onto the vRS.

To get 0-60 in around 6.8-7.5 seconds get the following:

Green air filter (£35)

Ibiza Cupra PD160 Intake (£30)

Remap (£375-£600 depending on tuner), I chose JabbaSport at £375 from a group buy on here (10% discount) and it gave me 195 bhp & 323 lb/ft of torque, with no apparent loss in reliability or MPG, having covered 25k with it now i'm still very pleased with the overall gain.

Just IMO of course :)

But you are no more likely to be pulled by the police unless you are breaking the law.

For anyone under 30 or who doesn't dress conservatively, that's a lie and you know it.

I know many people my age and under who have been pulled in cars like a Vauxhall Astra 'just in case it's stolen'. If I were driving around in a Scooby or an Evo I bet I would be pulled. And I haven't been stopped by the police in the entire time I've been driving. In my Punto and my Skoda.

Why worry you'l beat most things 0 - 90 - if you remap anyway and still have a transmission !!!!:D or as other posts, get a petrol gti

Compared to a souped up 240bhp Vectra 3.2?! Scooby servicing is every 10k (unlike the Evo which was 4.5k last time I checked) and the fuel economy I got was 25-30mpg in real world driving. It likes super unleaded/Optimax, but will run fine of 95 RON if you're a cheap skate ;)

I was never stopped in the 4 years I owned mine and I got it when I was 22 :D

Chris

My G-Tech performance Meter reported consistant 0-60 times of *.* to *.* seconds on my car.

And that was on a rubbish road surface.
