Steel Grey Sportline- good or bad option?

Featured Replies

What are the thoughts on Steel Grey (non metallic)? Ive searched google high and low and cant find a Superb in this colour but think it looks good in the VRS.

If anybody has a pic of this please share and any thoughts are v welcome

Ive just placed an order for a Sportline 2.0 TDI 150bhp but need to decide on colour asap. I have a Candy White MKII and love the colour but fancy a change. Live in the countryside and cars get dirty quick here so black is out but I'll consider other options

wasn't aware that steel grey was an option on the superb, but it looks good in the Skoda car-configurator

Go for it ;-)

If available in Steel Grey (Meteor Grey) then looking at an Octavia or Kodiaq in Steel Grey gives you as good an idea as any what it will look like.

Personally  - and all colour choices are subjective and in the eyes of the beholder - I think steel grey is one of the worst colours I have seen on this car. I've been driving past my local dealer every day and he has a steel grey Octavia VRs estate on prominent display. Its the only car in this colour. Other cars have come and gone off the lot. This one just sits and sits.

if I have affronted the taste of members with a car in this colour I apologise. Some colours grow on you, like Dragon Green, which I disliked when I first saw it -  steel grey for me is the new 'beige' and I think may affect resale value. Only once in my life did I buy a car where I didn't ay enough attention to the colour which I though would grow on me. The car drove well and never let me down, but I never warmed to the car and let it go early. Colour really matters.

My own Sportline Estate is quartz grey. It was a demonstrator and I got a very good deal on it, so no choice there, but I think it works and doesn't show up the dirt too much. My son calls it the 'stealth bomber', with the black trim, graphite wheels  and sunset windows.

If I had a choice I'd have gone for  for business grey on the Sportline, which I think is rich without being too dark and should hide the dirt fairly well.

You pays your money and makes your choice...and then you have to live with it.

Thanks for the pictures. I wonder if anybody has ordered it? I guess its a bit of a marmite colour. Im between two minds - dont want to be the only one with this colour Superb either

If that's the colour @Headinawayoffski has posted then buy buy buy!

I think the Octavia vRS looks special in MG and I've thought a few times that it would suit the Sportline even more.  Audi use 'Sazuka grey' on the RS models, which is very similar and it makes me want to lick an RS7's tail pipe. :o

Also, that's the first Kodiaq I've seen that doesn't look fugly and oh so boring

:wait:        ** note to self, " Remove penquin from christmas card list "

Grey and red have appeared on the configurator in recent weeks. The red is lovely but I am not allowed red cars as the missus says they are 'too dangerous' and always involved in accidents. The grey I will admit I am not sure of. I went with Laser white in the end.

Wow!  Here's me looking up to the hills and thinking about that Christmas we had in Andorra.  You've changed!

Red cars are surely not involved in as many accidents as Grey Cars with the Cloak of Invisibility and those that seem to be driving without lights on in

very poor visibility, or DRL's to the front and ziltz to the rear.

White and grey cars are surely involved in more, struck by snow ploughs and blowers clearing snow drift incidents!

I never said her objection was either rational, or true! Its just safer not to upset her! Maybe I should go for a harlequin one like they used to make in the VW Polo, a bit of each colour....

I have thought about it and Im very tore over if the meteor grey is really nice or really horrible. Im not brave enough to take a chance so have gone with Laser White. Thanks for the help- I'll be keeping an eye out but recon it will be very rare in the Sportlines- at least where I am in south west of Ireland my local dealer hasnt got a single meteor grey on order for the New Year

The darker non metallic grey in the Audi's is a very different colour and one that I certainly wouldnt be passing up but the budget wont stretch to an AS6 time around.

Wish I hadn’t seen this thread. When I ordered my Sportline, those colours weren’t available!

Now pondering on the red and the unusual flat primer style grey.

I think that colour looks great on the VRS, I think the red brake callipers help also.

We have a Kodiaq in the same boring metallic great everyone has it in, great all rounder. It is dull to look at but the perfect family car.

I also have the superb 280 l&k estate (two large dogs) on order in moon white, would have been tempted to go with this colour if it was available. Would have looked good with the anthracite 19's I have specced.

I got such a great deal, I dare not change the spec now

Update: just checked and this isn't available on the l&k superb estate( looks like I will be comforted with my heated seats and pipe and slippers)

Meteor/steel Grey also a £555 option on the sportline.  That a lot of money for a flat paint when the standard metallics are the same price.

£555?! I thought it was a solid no cost option. That’s made my mind up then lol.

One of the nurses at our vets has a solid grey Octavia VRS estate and personally I think it totally spoils the car. It looks cheap.

And I love grey, got a Business Grey SE Superb and had a grey Golf and Mini in the past

bit odd that the new Velvet red is more expensive (900) than the "exclusive" Dragon green

I’m Ireland it’s a no cost option for the Meteor Grey, can’t believe they charge 550 quid for it in the U.K.

Looks awful.

Skoda are quite canny here selling cars finished in primer passing them off as the finished product and charging full price!

Yeah but you have to pay for an alarm and anything bigger than a 2" screen on your infotainment system :tongueout:

  • 3 weeks later...

Meteor Grey looks like the car has arrived in primer, ready to be painted :D
