Fog with highbeam

Featured Replies

Hi

I got my14 vrs and tried activating fog lights together with highbeam.

I've manage to activate fogs together with highbeam flasher, but not to stay on with highbeam.

The coding so far is:

Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
Security access > Access Code : 31347
Adaptation
Leuchte12NL LB45 Lichtfunktion B-12
Select:Lichthupe generell
Leutchte13NL RB5 Lichfunktion B-13
Select:Lichthupe generell

I tried to find the name of the curve light to but 90% of adaptions are in german language..

Anyone knows how to do it?

Do anyone have a english description on adaptions in 09?

Yep, 'Lichthupe' is only for flashing.

I think you'll need 'Fernlicht links/rechts'

Check page 16 of this PDF.

Thats what I just did.

My theory is, if you have the high beams on(with HBA possibly) it means that noone is in front of you = why not have fog lights on as well ?
(note I dont use B-12, B-13, B-8, B-9 because I guess these are already used for cornerring fogs so I used C-*)

High Beam with Fog Lights
Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
Security access > Access Code : 31347
Adaptation
(5)-Leuchte12NL LB45 Lichtfunktion C-12
Select: Fernlicht links
(5)-Leuchte13NL RB5 Lichfunktion C-13
Select: Fernlicht rechts

If you have vRS model (4 fog bulbs) then you need to add:
(1)-Leuchte8FL LB39 Lichtfunktion C-8
Select: Fernlicht links
(1)-Leuchte9FL RB2 Lichfunktion C-9
Select: Fernlicht rechts

Also make sure Dimmwert CD is set to 100 for all 4 channels.

Does this only work with VRS? What about standard Octavia with Bi-Xenon and LED DLR?

I dislike the Bi-Xenon, I prefer to have a second light flash so it is most distinguishable, impossible to be mistaken for when car is over a bump. Making the fog lights flash will do the job nicely.

the first part is for normal octavia with 2 fog bulbs, one on each side.
if you have VRS then you need to add coding for the extra 2(the second part of my post above), as vrs has 2 bulbs on each side.

If you want it to be used as flash lights then instead of " Fernlicht links " use "Lichthupe generell".

You can also do both I guess, as theres the D-* channel still free, so you can add it as:
(5)-Leuchte12NL LB45 Lichtfunktion D-12
Select: Lichthupe generell
etc(do this for all bulbs ofc)

....while still leave the C-* as " Fernlicht links " -- use fogs with high beam

Afaik my 1.4tsi SE works like that. Used on occasion on dark and twisty roads with no visible kerb markings.

My theory is if you need for fogs with highbeam then there's something wrong with your high beam. :giggle:

Anything that helps warn the Moose to get off the road before you get to them is good with me.

If you need the kerb illuminating then the fog lights do a better job than the main or dipped beam. Especially if it's a very small moose. Och aye the noo!

exactly. "every little helps" :P

Unfortunately this mod would be illegal in UK and would likely fail an MOT as well.

I’ll concede I hadn’t even thought of that and yeah, I can certainly see the part it would fail on. Just need to remember and deactivate this prior to MOT time I guess.

Having the fog lights operate with the main beam should not be an MOT fail!

As long as the fog lights operate as they should when being used as fog lights there should not be an issue.

There must be an MOT tester member on briskoda.net. An opinion would would be welcome.

Or even the experience of owners who have carried out the mod and had a problem or otherwise during an MOT.

I have LED headlights and halogen fogs and have activated cornering lights, flash with main beam and on with main beam.

MOT not due for 18 months though.

Don't know if it falls foul of any other legal issues but it would be fine for MOT.

4.5 Front and rear fog lamps

4.5.1 Presence, condition and operation

You only need to inspect:

  • front fog lamps fitted to vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018
  • the 1 rear fog lamp which must be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980

A rear fog lamp isn't needed on:

  • vehicles not fitted with front and rear position lamps
  • vehicles with permanently disconnected, painted over or masked front and rear position lamps
  • tricycles and quadricycles

Front and rear fog lamps are permitted to operate independently of any other lamps or ignition systems.

Depends how MOT tester interprets "operate the fog lamps as intended"

Judging from the obsession with fitting football stadium grade lighting on their cars,  I reckon many members could do with visiting their local optician and get their eyes checked.

That's the important line.

I would like to try this, anyone had any issues since original post?

No issues here. Passed my MOT with this mod still active on the car back in June. Wasn’t mentioned at all.
