1.0tsi performance

Featured Replies

Because I'm in full on Homer Simpson mode at the mo,i.e bored at work I've been looking at power/weight ratios

1.0 Octavia 1235kg 115bhp is roughly 93bhp/tonne

Just because I just came from one

F10 520d 1670kg 184bhp is roughly 112bhp/tonne

Could go some way to explaining why it feels better than just adequate,we won't mention torque figures we'll just plan hills a bit rather than just drive up'em with impunity

now my transition car is 1250kg 90 bhp or 72bhp/tonne 4 months of that should have my thinking adjusted

If you can stretch to the 1.5 TSI, you will not be disappointed.

I'd love too,but the whole 1.0 thing was dictated by shiny new driver coming on stream,1.0 litre car near as dammit a prerequisite for even vaguely affordable insurance

How much is vaguely affordable?  Out of curiosity as affordability is subjective, was wondering what the kids these days are paying as my insurance hasn't really changed since I started driving, in the £400-450 a year range.

Male 32, driving since 18, pass plus, no motoring convictions, clean criminal record, low crime area, previously sh**ty cars (1995 Fiesta Mk 3 1.3 petrol; 1998 Fiesta Mk4 1.25 petrol; 2003 Focus 1.8 petrol; 2015 Octavia 2.0 TDi).

One prang where I hit an uninsured idiot that blindly pulled out of a junction, one new windscreen due to a fair size stone chip.

17 year old girl, doesn't matter if she was 37 she's new

3rd party f+t own name 02 pug 206 1.1 ..........................8000 euro

Named driver same car with her gran.............................5700 euro

Named driver on wife's cactus,.........................................4500 euro

Named driver on 520d,.............,........................................F@#K OFF

Named driver 1984 range rover........................................See above

Named driver 1.0 litre car don't matter if car 25k euro or 0.5k euro ...........1715

All the above figures are 3rd party fire n theft

Fully comp 1.0 car named driver 2250 euro

And multi car don't exist here so I can't buy a second p.o.s unsure it and name here on that

The only way I can insure a 2nd car is a classic policy, see range rover above, and to hold a classic policy here you need to have a real car policy to make that affordable.

Guess what country I live in ?

I believe in the UK, new driver premiums can be vastly reduced by:

- new-ish car that has lots of safety features by standard (e.g. emergency braking)

- small, low power engine

- add granny or other experienced drivers on policy

- fully comp rather than 3rd party

- black box

- further driving qualifications.

It seems crazy but it may work out cheaper over the first two years (car cost/depreciation, insurance) with a new(ish) 1.0 hatchback, rather than the hand-me-down pug.
