I decided to replace all the stock lights to LED and choose an ledperf kit for handiness and peace of mind, I havent got the patience to hunt around and wait for cheaper bulbs to come on the slow boat from china. Im completely underwhelmed. Ive got 6 extra bulbs that i dont need including 2 festoons. One single fog light bulb [which is worded like its two bulbs on their site] thats about one fifth the brightness of the original halogen. Four H8 bulbs that had to be dremelled to fit the front fogs which are actually H16, and rear number plate lights that have a huge regulator the size of two match boxes for each size. they are rattling about in the back and the rear boot cover needs to be remove to properly fix them so not a small job. 

 

 

Rear fogs:  LEDPERF H21W LED replacement on the left, standard OEM bulb on the right. ive switched back to the stock as this was a disappointment.

 

Id give it 3/10 and thats being kind to be honest, purely because of the price the incorrectly sent bulbs and bulbs that didn't fit. The actual quality of the bulbs is no better than cheap Chinese ones from Aliexpress which i bought to compare, and the ledperf leds brightness are underwhelming.

 

If your thinking about the full LED replacement i'd give Ledperf a swerve. If just the interior then make sure you specify exactly what you want rather than a kit. 

 

Has anyone with a UK spec vRS got a picture of where the cutouts are to retrofit the footwell puddle lights? i have looked but dont think my vRS has the cutouts in the trim?

The LEDPerf stuff won't be any better than the typical Chinese stuff. I've given up with non-branded bulbs, even for interior LEDs. Used Osrams, which are far better and actually white (none of that blue tinge) though they aren't cheap at about a fiver per bulb. Get what you pay for....

 

I can't find any pictures from when I did my Footwell retrofit, but you might have them. The passenger side one is central under the Glovebox, the driver's side one is on the right hand side near the OBD port. The ones for the rear are pretty central at the bottom of the seatbacks. They are just rectangular cutouts, should be relatively easy to work out if you have them.

I came across the phrase PWM, i understand the effect, and does the rear light need to be coded to LED to get full brightness?

Just like light bulb's, LED's come in different brightnesses.

 

As neither of the H21W LED bulbs on ledperf specify wattage or lumen output, they might not be as powerful as a standard halogen...

 

A typical 21W halogen is in the region of 400-450 lumens, if you buy an LED bulb it probably needs to be in the 500-600 lumen range to be noticeably brighter, especially as the reflector isn't designed for a LED light source. Use a supplier who actually gives some specs and you'll probably get a better result

In addition to what @langers2k  mentioned about wattages etc. LED bulbs tend to be very directional in the light they throw out, whereas halogen bulbs diffuse their light pretty evenly. Depending on the shape of the LED bulb and the positioning of the LEDs, you might find some of the light being wasted, as it's not firing towards the reflective surface in the tail lamp.

 

I found this when I fitted some LED indicators to the front headlights and ended up reverting back to the original halogens.

in addition to this the lights in the mirrors seem to be an option? i have no down light from the underside or recess to add one (2014 vRS)

 

i'm assuming this is only present on powered mirrors? are all mirrors powered but just not enabled in the BCM (or is it ecm?) i can see and option to enable powered mirrors

 

thanks for the list @wingzee the puddle lights look OEM and that's a great price. I ordered a set including wiring for a few pounds more.

 

Good info about lumens @ahenners its just a shame sites like ledperf dont quote this info and im sure this is a deliberate, so they can sell inferior bulbs at inflated prices. 

 

my pack was £170 ish, i wouldnt bother with them again.
