Acceleration pedal

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm the new owner of a Skoda Octavia 2013, 1.8 TSI DSG with 70000 km on board. I hope you won't laugh but I have a question. When I press the acceleration pedal it feels weird, heavy,  harder to press, is not as sensible, easy to press, as the acceleration pedal of my old car, Dacia Logan. Maybe it's because.it has a more powerfull engine than the Dacia. Is it normal?

Thank you in advance

The pedal isn't fantastic in the Octavia, it's not particularly linear and has a bit of a dead zone before it actually seems to apply noticeable throttle.

It's much worse in eco mode if you have the option to change "driving mode" and most tolerable in sport mode. Quite a few people buy the DTUK pedal boxes to improve the pedal response.

same here, for a diesel 2.0.

I highly suspect it's due to fuel consumption and environment friendly cars.

I have the DTUK pedal box, yes its expensive but it does make a huge difference to throttle response, is it worth the money? yes, it has 27 levels of adjustment but to be honest i just keep mine on sport or sport+, in sport+ just touch the throttle and you're off.

There is a VCDS audi mod that has the same effect but its just on or off.

The pedal is nothing more than a foot operated switch as it only connects to wires which send the signal to the ECU. They have an internal spring to return the pedal back to its original position. If it’s the resistance from this spring that’s making it harder to press it shouldn’t be particularly hard compared to other cars, although I’ve never driven a Dacia so couldn’t compare. You could try making sure that there is no obstructions behind the pedal, although unlikely as it’s a drop down pedal rather than floor mounted.

The driving modes and DTUK pedal boxes the others talk about only manipulate the signal from the pedal and instead of the output being 1 from the pedal it converts the reading for example to 2 to give a more responsive feel. The effort to push down in the pedal is unchanged.

Do the throttle mod, made an improvement to my car

Have you got a floor mat stuck underneath? :mmm:

Thank for respondonding so fast.

The floor mats are not the problem since they are the textile ones and fixed on the carpet :).

I don't how to explain exactly but for example, the car is stopped in the parking lot and in order to move the car I feel like I have to press the acc pedal too hard, it lacks sensitivity, and it feels heavy under my foot ,almost like a clutch pedal, but when I press harder the car accelerates normally, it's not slugish in any way, maybe I just bought it and I'm imagining things :))).

Anyway when driving the old car I just had to press the acc pedal very easy and the car will start to move, and I was barely feeling that I had the pedal under my foot.

I have the full maintenance history and the car didn't have any problems in the past, I suppose I'll get used to it in time. I'll change the driving mode to sport and put the dsg in sport mode also to see if it feels different.

@BlueR If you can compare it against another Octavia or Superb to how much effort is require to move the pedal. If yours is noticeably more firm get another fitted. You can do it yourself as they are plug and play items. Second hand they are about £15-30, new about £150.
