Vrs 245 Ownership Questions

Featured Replies

Before I pull the pin on one I was wondering how well they are going to hold their value say in 4 years? I know its a bit of crystal ball gazing but are they going to plummet? The one I am looking at is circa £27k.

MPG on a run looks 40mpg from other posts, I do do some longish motorway trips at an around 70mph. I am not that worried about consumption in VRS mode!

How robust is the red paint, a superb in red looked like its paint was a bit thin and brittle.

cheers

Mine is on 2 year lease but I treat it like I own it so very gentle. My average is 31 over 1100 miles. The red paint is........ well red. I put some meguiars liquid wax on it to protect but it's decent to me. Obviously ****e wether and salt on road don't help

Sorry another question......are these a lot noisier than say a superb on the motorway? We had a run in one but it was all B road which was great fun but could not get an idea of motorway cruising.

cheers

Um, I’m fairy sure the order book for the 245 is closed until further notice, no? All build slots are taken.

Never drove a superb but the 245 are noisy at 70ish mph buy they get there quick and if you were on a autobharn or private toad they would happily cruise at around a ton probably more comfortably than 70 apparently

Second hand ones are already built, no?

I read an Autocar review of the 245, they reckon it would only retain half its value after two years. I'm hoping this is true as I want to attempt to buy mine at the end of lease!

I'm thinking same which is why I'm looking after it. If I don't someone is going to get a peach of a 2 yr old 245

It's not as smooth or as comortable as a Superb (my other half has one) comfort/eco mode softens out the bumps and increases the comfort factor and tbh on a reasonable road, I think it's a comfortable cruiser the seats do make up for a lot here.

Considering its not really designed with maximum comfort in mind it does an admirable job, just not as good as the Superb.

But lets face facts, if you're buying it to cruise on the motorway your going to find the Superb better. Tyre roar is very noticable on the 245, but then, so is the kick in the back from the heavy right foot!

Fuel economy is surprisingly ok - mixed driving returns 33/34 to the gallon.

Most of the time you can drive the 245 sedately (if you are so inclined) but it does like to remind you what it's capable of the superb isn't fussed about doing this and will give you a more comfortable ride.

In my experience fuel consumption is not great. You have to drive like a granny to get 35mpg. Reasonably quiet on the motorway.

Don't buy a 245 for residual values or motorway cruising, neither are its strong points

Actually on mobile.de and autoscout24 I haven't find anybody selling predecessor RS230. I was wondering how much my car will cost 2-3 years old, but there is no advert to compare. As a rare beast, it may actually cost more then average Octavia, who keeps the value decently.

Why not? I use its predecessor quite enjoyably mostly on motorways. Not noisy car at all, actually better then a regular Octavia. You can't really compare it to a different segment like Superb. The noise is coming from the wind and UHP 19" tires, but you can always seek for a most silent tire in this segment since it is considered buying it used. Wind is noticeable from 150km/h and upwards, but anywhere besides German autobahn these speeds can't be enjoyed frequently.

Using it to cruise on a normal speeds will never be an issue. Octavia like any other, just much better.

At 42 months mine will have a GFV of £12-1/4k or 39% of its (£31,400) new price hence, residuals are ****.

Apart from tyre noise the Octavia VRS and it's variants are fine at motorway cruising. Not as good as a luxo barge but that's not what it's trying to be.

Residuals aren't great as others have commented, I doubt you'll see more than a 3rd of the original value after 4 years and 40k.

My 245 is excellent on the motorway. I can barely hear it. On my 13 mile commute home i get between 35 and 37mpg

Thanks all decided on balance this is not the car for me, residuals, mpg, noise would get to me, I’ll save the spirited driving for the lotus and stay with a superb with a remap to get a bit of space with grace

Elise + Superb is a pretty good 2 car setup!
