Itchy Feet

Anyone else get carried away with buying cars?

I've had my Superb just over a year, and it's a great car. Decent performance and loads of room, everything I could want and need in a car. Flappy paddles, comfy seats, the lot.

Start browsing autotrader just for fun, see cars I like starting to come into a budget I didn't know I had 5 minutes ago, fire a few emails off and within a couple of days end up doing a deal on a car you didn't realise you needed in your life right now?

I've done it 4 times in 2.5 years now!

Oops! Oh well, merry Christmas to me haha

So.. what did you end up with? :D

I have a problem where i keep looking at potential cars that i dont have the money for, then just get depressed and accept ill be in the current box for at least another 18months.. wasnt the plan but the list of things ive put into it already i want to get some use out if the expenditure!

(Radiator, aux belt tensioner, tyres, brakes, clutch and dmf... wheel bearings..)

Between my self and Mrs G we have had a few, My 230 is our 25th ( I think ) Skoda.   So yes I do get carried away

We’ve got the best family/retirement 5 seat ever, and after an embarrassing number of vehicles in short order.

The Picasso gives an average 50mpg, isn’t lumbered with a GPF (soon to be mandatory) vast airy interior, flat/sliding rear sears, folding pax front seat, proven engine and transmission (Aisin).

The heavily depreciated funds from the diesel 2008 we sold have almost doubled on a stock and now threatening our pension situation.    But as much as I spend looking at possible replacements I just know I’ll kick myself afterwards........that’s the true test surely.    Even better, the new importers have combined Peugeot and Citroen sales& service, so distant is now down from 150 kms to just 50.....I should remain happy for once.

Well, I thought I was getting a Jaguar XJL Portfolio but it looks like I may not be now haha!

heh I thought I did...

Then I got the citgo for financial and situational purposes. To be honest having a car that costs <1k a year all in is quite nice. Do I think about changing it, yes every time I get in and everytime I get out.

Change is on my mind at the moment, perhaps, not change, maybe supplementing. The citigo is worth nothing; really, and ideal for quick trips.

I must admit to thinking I've got 10years before owning a V8+ is not going to happen. Just too many to choose from. And applying citigo logic, can't cost too much and has to be a better experience in some way. Thankfully from a long weekend with a xjs v8, I know it's not going to be one of those. It's that or a panel van, on air with a mattress :D

The Citroen CX Estate was for a while the thinking climber / camper / travelers vehicle of choice.

Now it seems to be a VW Commercial where as a Citroen / Peugeot MPV might well be the 'much cheapness' option.   Has the seats, or bedding space.

Well i guess the Grand Picasso would be the equivalent George

The ugly ones, totally practical & even cheaper ,the Berlingo / Partner, & then there are the huge, Renault, Citroen C8 & Peugeot People carriers that make good tin tents / mountain car park Bothies.

Yup, periodically have a moment where I want to change my car and scower Autotrader and the likes a for a proper performance car. Then the sensible one on my left shoulder pipes up and reminds me that we have plans and money is wisely saved and not spent for the time being.

I’m fortunate enough that I drive a different new car each week recently, so not had one of those moments for a while :)

Just about to buy my first new car since 2004..... what is this itchy feet syndrome you speak of :-) ?

All the time.

I'm thinking about chopping in the beemer for something boring and something nice.

Seems a waste to commute in a nice car. But also nasty to commute in a crap car.

I reckon I need about 3 cars.

Boring cheap commuter - Focus diesel, Dachia

Old 4x4 pickup - Isuzi Rodeo

Weekend car - Aston Vantage / Jag F type / Caterham

The Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE is quite a nice truck. 3 litre diesel with a prodrive performance pack. Not many sold, but had a lot of accessories. Would have been about 2005-2006. I worked for a Subaru/Isuzu franchise when they were out and enjoyed it as a truck!

Great trucks, pity about the engines issues that had back then, so ones from that time are fixed 10 plus years on.

Well the car I was getting, I'm now not.

Dealer has been great, but the finance companies have been making me jump through hoops. Accepted, just need proof of earnings. No problem. Oh, now we need 3 months bank statements. Ok, no problem.

Oh, now we can't lend you the full amount. We can only lend you £x.

But I'm earning more than when my previous car was in a higher monthly...how does this work?

Ah, your credit score sir...but look at my account. It's fine.

We are responsible lenders, blah blah blah.

I also don't get why, if you are a higher risk, the interest rate goes up..which pushes a monthly payment up.

We will lend you X but at a higher interest rate...so your saying I can afford to borrow X but want to charge me more...making it less affordable? Makes a whole lot of sense.

Urgh. Oh well, I'll wait a few months, new plate in March. No new car for me this Christmas.

Went to my online banking site this week and there was a statement saying how much I owed on my loan for my Octavia @3.9% and then saying I could borrow another £4K @19.9%. Yeah right where do I sign......
