Air filters for Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi to All

Looking at getting a washable air filter (to save money on servicing 5 times a year;) ) and have read that the green cotton filters dont fit the Fabia vRS airbox very well.

Has anyone tried the Jetex panel filter? If so, how is the fit in te airbox? How does it affect the running of the car?

I have had Jetex exhausts and filters on most stuff I have owned for years and know the quality to be good generally.

Chris

I've had no problems with the green filter.

Just got to be carefull when you fit it to ensure you get a good seal.

Has anyone tried the K&N 57i performance air induction kit on the vRS yet?, they're supposed to allow even more airflow than the K&N replacement panel filter.

Cone filters are generally much better as far as inflow of air is concerned, but the Fabia's ECU won't allow you to use one. It goes nuts when you remove the standard airbox.

Chris, try the K&N panel filter. Fits perfectly :)

does the same apply to the pipercross induction kit cos i have ordered 1!!!!!!!!

[/quote'] Mil, the K&N kit retains the original vRS sensors, does the above statement still apply?

No it doesnt, shouldn't be any reason why you can fit an induction kit on a Fabia vRS, you just need a good cold intake which is tricky due to lack of room. For this reason a panel filter and PD160 intake works the best.

I'd avoid any type of induction kit that places the filter cone int the engine bay, even if it does have a sehild (usually made of metal which conducts heat, ie get hot = no good) as this mean that all that warm / hot air in the engine bay will be sucked into the engine reducing power.

Panel filters or CAIs are the way to go.

Although, I've just fitted a stock paper filter, work fine as yiou'd expect and it cost £8.50, so if I replace it every 6 months I'd need to keep the car for 2-3 years to warrant buying a K&N or likewise.

Only if I get the remap will I upgrade to a better filter :)

I can't see the K&N being a major problem, as long as it's not too oiled.

IIRC, K&N generally supply fairly heavily-oiled filters, which can kill the MAF sensor. As long as it's fairly dry, I don't see why not.

Anyone know if the K&N panel filter fits better than the green one? The green one on mine doesn't seem to be quite the right size so you have to be careful when putting it in place.

Pull it out ever so slightly and it's perfectly fine.

I suppose you could get a K&N, clean it and re-oil it yourself, using very little oil :)

The K&N I have was no more oily than my previous Green filter and I think if K&N's really were responsible for killing MAFs they wouldn't still be in business now ;)

Either are fine, but imho, the K&N is the better made.....

tHE K&N s do seem to fit alot better. On my old saxo i had a K & N fitted originally before some idiot took it out when it was in for a service. Decided to get a green filter but rather than sit tight within the housing, it was loose by a few millimters.

Hi

The K&N filters are OK. I used them on fuel injected and carb cars and bikes before I used Jetex. Never had a problem with them, genreally well made and no problems cleaning them, however, they can be a bit oily. The Jetex ones I have run in the past have always fitted the airbox perfectly and performed very well.

Induction kits generally dont give good results unless you get them into cold air away from the underbonnet space. Mil, the problem with the MAF error may be the result of turbulent airflow, or temeperature fluctuation in the air supply from the underbonnet area (hot when car is standing running changing to cooler when moving). More ditance between filter and MAF may help the turbulance issue, but the temp issue may only be solved if the filter is moved out from under the bonnet.

Anyone used the pipercross replacement filter? Had K&N on my last car but the pipercross is just that little bit cheaper, and I doubt there is much of a performance difference between them. Just wondered if it fitted ok.

I used K&N filters for years and never had and issue, and when talking to STAR their experience of people issues with MAF failures isn't with the brand it with people over oiling them, Greem K&N, etc, after they cleaned them.

Thing is you rarely need to clean them unless you drive in very heavy traffic or do lots of miles, ir 25k per year or more, otherwise it would be every two years or so.

But now that I've found a place that does paper filters that are the same as stock for £8.50 a pop, I can chnage my filter every 4-5 months and not worry about the cost.

:)

The Green panel filter fits perfectly !!

I have a pipercross foam filter in mine, (and PD 160 intake) fits perfectly and I haven't needed to touch it in 26,000 miles :)

Jesus, you probably should though. There's no reason to think it won't retain much just because it's a foam filter. Most of the people who didn't clean their green filters for 10k or so, found them absolutely covered in cr@p. Me included, after 7.5k. So after 26, yours is probably very clogged - you might not see it though because pipercross filters are black or dark grey out of the box, often.

Take it out and give it a wash, I bet you'll find a lot of filth in it.

well the servicing book says the paper one is good for 40k :S:S:S
