Dual mass or single mass fly wheel

Featured Replies

Hi I have a skoda superb 2.0 cr 2014 tdi and just heard the dreaded flywheel knock on cold start. Now has anyone changed to single mass flywheel on these cars and if yes does it make any difference to the drive. Thank you

I've heard poisitive comments from dual to single on the older 5 speed 1.9 PD engine but I'm not sure I'd try it on the 6 speed CR engine.

The purpose of the dual mass flywheel is to restrict vibration isn't it?

Not sure the extra durability / life offered by a single mass flywheel would sufficiently offset the refinement on offer from a dual mass.

I recently had a new LUC dual mass flywheel and clutch for £600 fitted.

I think that's it exactly...

If you pay for comfort or refinement - Dual mass...

If cost/money keeps you awake - Single mass...

Consider whats most important and accept it.

The 2.0 CR and PD can't be converted to single mass, dual mass only i'm afraid.

I'm not TOO surprised - I wonder why no Single...

Stupid

I love the fact that VAG is so popular that many companies are willing to take the OEM and change it. - Even improve upon it!

That makes it more interesting for those in the know - But more confusing for the regular user..

Devil in the detail...

The expected life is 50 - 60K Miles for the Organic Kit, and 20 - 30k for the Sintered Kit

We also offer an OEM Sachs DMF with Sachs SRE Clutch Kit if you want to retain the comfort of a Dual Mass

Honestly i dont understand why this part should be converted. I guess only the price, but if We have such a car , we should consider such price level. We will not have a superb by the price of a citigo.

Thank you to all who replied. My mechanic suggested a single mass fly wheel as all his vehicles have been converted. He's a specialist in German cars. Just wanted a second opinion. My car spends most of its life on the motorway. Iv checked and can get the whole kit dmf clutch bolts and slave cylinder for £480.00 with trade discount.

Bear in mind that the 2.0 CR was engineered from the outset to work with a DMF. The shock loadings from an SMF could well cause crankshaft damage.

There's also the Valeo SMF kit:

The SMF kit is often recommended, but not for your engine.
