1.6 Greenline diesel fuel consumption

Featured Replies

So we been running this for a while now cant say im impressed with the mpg on a run down  to me mums 200 mile M1 M25 M2 so all motorway our old 1.9 PD octavia would easy do 60 mpg at a indicated 70 in cruise control best I can get out of this is 56 mpg the sale blurb say:

"The 1.6-litre Skoda Superb GreenLine model stands head and shoulders above the others in terms of sheer fuel economy, with a consumption figure of just 76.4mpg. "

I cant see me getting anywhere near that unless I do 30mph.

Am I expecting to much ? and 56mpg is as good as it will get at motorway speeds ?

2012 1.6 d Greenline Superb est

Is it the indicated as on your dash which will also be usually about 10% inaccurate.

Only way to tell is brim to brim then use an app like Fuelly this will give the real figure

Fill her up and see how much you get to a full tank of fuel

And that sales blurb you are reading is for a brand new vehicle in test conditions which is NEVER achievable in the real world:blush:

Saying that my friend has a 1.6Greenline as a taxi and is getting very good MPGB)

Skoda never published figures of a vehicle with people in them driving on a road in the real world,

so who published the Sales Blurb, was it Skoda?

so I wasn't that far out 39mph LOL

What were you getting to a full tank as I get about 400 miles just to make you feel :biggrin:

It doesn’t seem too far off. My 2014 Greenline3 just went to Wales and back (220miles each way), on the computer it read 61mpg going down and 63mpg coming back.

Real world, brim to brim checks and it just about makes 50mpg, which I think is pretty good for a big car.

50mpg seems slightly low for a Greenline to me

Real world brim to brim  overall average 45.8 for my facelift petrol tsi

My Greenline still averages 65 mpg brim to brim, even after 109,000 miles, although all my journeys are always over 90 minutes as I only use the car to commute to work.   I came off of the motorway tonight having averaged 74 mpg on the journey home from the office. The odometer is really accurate as well (I tested it a couple of times long distance up the A1 with a GPS), so the miles displayed seem to match what has been driven when doing a brim to brim test.  I can get 800 miles out of a tankful if I take it into the red, 850 at a push, but I am a very gentle driver.  The best time for fuel consumption is spring and autumn I find. My Superb still runs beautifully and I am highly reluctant to change it for the new model because of this. Its the cheapest car to run I have ever owned, its not even had a set of brake pads yet.

Think mine is about 500-550 miles on a tank although I'm careful not to overfill (as I once triggered an EML because of this) so even when nearly empty never get much more than 50ltrs in (official size is 60lts).

In my mk I Superb I used to get nearly 70ltrs in (which is more than the official size!)

Mine seems to hold 62-63 litres which is slightly more than the official tank size.

Hmm - interesting. As well as not going past the "click" when filling I wonder if I've got a bit of capacity when I hit near zero miles on range display. Or is the tank smaller on the facelift (It has lower CO2 - could it have been reduced to save "filled" weight?)

I do miss the 750+ mile range of my previous Superb I 1.9pd (new owner gets over 800! - driving Miss Daisy)

I don't know but, on the few occasions I have taken it to 850 miles it has taken 60-62 litres and it has still shown about 30-40 miles range remaining. Others have speculated on here that Skoda don't include the filler neck when they state a fuel tank size.

Hmm - feeling short changed. I usualy take mine down to 30 miles range!

A friend of mine was a bit miffed after they bought a new A4 - they forgot to specify the free option of a larger tank and ended up with a teeny weeny range

I am an inveterate record keeper and I just checked my notes and changed the 'more than 60 litres' comment to '60-62 litres' as the times I have been over 850 miles (and kept a record) it was 60-62 litres. I am trying to find what my longest range is, but I can't find the diary note. I don't think I have been over 860 miles on a tankful though.

I am wondering that with the newer model having a 70 litre tank if 1000 miles is possible on a single fill?

@Pesmog if chipped / remapped - shouldn't be a problem.

Tempting - but even though my commute is long (32 miles each way) it's slow and has lots of traffic so am worried about DPF's. A colleague had a VRS (older PD) that had lots of DPF issues on almost the same run

I am running 18” wheels so that will be knocking it back a bit!

^^^ Maybe if the tyres on are a bit wider because i assume you run the same circumference of tyres. & the Unsprung weight / Wheel tyre weight no different.

Even if 17" wheels are fitted the brand / compound and pressure run can make a difference.

@bigjohn @Greenline3Matt

Fellow Greenline 3 owner here, after around 9 months of ownership I am seeing 56mpg average, a fair bit of town driving in there. On a 150 mile round trip from Gateshead to York yesterday I averaged 80mpg on the button with a little mindfulness to traffic and road speed down the A1.
