Dipping Mirror in Reverse

Featured Replies

Hi all, just got my car yesterday and wondering if I can get my passenger door mirror to dip when I select reverse and have the mirror adjustment button at L. I don't have electric seats and it doesn't mention this in the mirror section on the infotainment menu. Had it on my MK7 Golf and thought it would be standard on the vRS also??

It can be enabled with VCDS but apparently it doesn’t work so great with very little dip.

Also you need to leave the switch in the L position all the time.

I had a load of coding done last week by @WayTooTall and he advised me from having it.

Maybe some like it, but he didn’t rate it

I did have it on my previous Superb and it worked a treat on that though

Ah well, it's not meant to be. Loved it in the Golf.

It is do-able though

You can always try it and see if you like it

I think the mirror only dips around 5% and doesn't always return to the correct position. I had it enabled on my last MKIII Vrs and wasn't very good.

My 230 has eletric leather seats and the mirror dip is a god send whilst parking.  I've mine set quite low to hopefully save the xtreme Alloys from kerbs.

100% agree with that. It was never mentioned in the manual, but the reverse dipping mirror was std when I bought my Golf GT back in 2007! It was also std equipment on Golf Match 2011. It's something I really missed since and was a tad peeved off when I returned to VW products to discover our top-of-the-range Ateca doesn't have this facility.

Have the electric seats in my Octavia and find the dipping mirror better than any parking sensor, parking assist or rear camera to avoid kerbing the alloys.

Same here, have the option and turned it off! It was annoying as F not returning to default position after lowering.

AFAIK it only returns to the same position if you have the memory seat option - which if you don't makes it almost useless as you have to adjust the mirror after using it.

The other mirror thing that annoys me is having a separate position for mirror heating, which makes mirror heating, dipping and adjusting (the drivers mirror) all mutually exclusive - which wasn't the case on my previous B6 Audi which had much earlier VAG electronics. Another case of newer is NOT always better?

Enabling by VCDS alone may not be good enough.  I've tried this on my previous car (Leon FR) and whilst the option showed in the infotainment screen the mirror would lower but not return when the speed threshold was reached, moving forward.  The mirror unit needs a potentiometer fitted in order for it to work.

My 13 Plate Leon had this fitted and it worked from the factory but then SEAT had a batch of dodgy units and they were subsequently removed from the car or completely disabled and VCDS alone wouldn't undo the change.   It was often brought up on SCN.

It's a very nice feature to have but I find it has one major flaw:

1.  Parallel park with the kerb on your offside (UK driver side)

2.  Return to your car and you need to reverse in order create a little space so you can pull out (nearside/passenger mirror now dips)

3.  Now try and use the offside/passenger side mirror to check vehicles approaching from behind but you can't as it's now pointed at the ground.

Yes just moving the mirror dial away from L would mitigate this but that's hardly the point of driver convenience feature is it  :)  Yes I always check over my shoulder too but there's a bit of a blind sport created by the one piece seats/headrests which are fitted to the Mk3 vRS and S3 Sportline.

I do have memory seats option.
