Buying a yeti as 2nd car?

Featured Replies

Hi the wifes car is getting too old and small, baby and dog in the micra doesnt work. Iam thinking about getting her a 2 or 3 year old 1.2 tsi dsg Yeti. She does less than 5000 miles a year. Any advice would be great from previous / current owners. Thanks.

I recon she’ll love it.......compact, brilliant vision and particularly the tight turning circle which can’t be equaled AFAIK.

Thanks. Yea i just need to get her to come test drive one.

Ideal car for the circumstances you describe. I am on my second 1.2 Tsi DSG, great vision, easy to drive, reliable and great accessibility for easy access to seats etc. Just make sure you have it serviced every 12 months irrespective of mileage.

Might be worth looking for one with front and rear parking beepers to make it even easier around town.

Once you've got one you'll probably find that you 'need' to use it yourself more often than you thought you would

I am on my second Yeti (both 1.2L) and chose front parking sensors as an option because my first yeti didn't have them. They are well worth having!

While a brilliant car, just check (if you are in the situation of using an isize child seat system) that you can get the child seat in and get the front seat back far enough for you. That is the only drawback I can see.

I have this problem in my octavia, child seat needs to go behind the passenger seat when i am driving.

Thanks guys for the replies. So it's going to be a 1.2 tis dsg with parking sensors. I wouldnt mind getting the elegance model, the interior looks good.

They all have rear sensors  but the fronts were an option extra.

Worth aiming for the later version with the EA211 engine (16v and Cambelt) from mid 2015

Not so sure on that. All a lottery, and time will tell.

They are more modern, they are Euro 6, but the VW Group have discontinued production of those engines pretty quickly,

maybe their longevity might not be as good as one might hope.

It’s a bit of a porky beast and the 1.5 is probably just as economical with stop/start assistance also.

With a baby, dog and all the stuff that goes with them, wouldn't an Octavia estate be a better choice?

The Yeti being taller is easier to access to put children in their seats, not so much bending down and twisting - or so my neighbour with baby and small child tell me. Also around town it's smaller size is more convenient than the longer Octavia Estate, and I can vouch for that having driven an Octavia estate for 6 years.

That's the reason for getting a yeti as a 2nd car, i drive the octavia estate myself grand for me, shes not too keen on it

Interesting! My wife was never keen on driving the Octavia estate either which is one of the reasons we swapped to a Yeti in 2012 - that and we retired and didn't need the estate nor did the annual mileage to justify a diesel.

I am getting over 44 MPG from my new Yeti (March 2017) which is about 2 MPG better than the original Yeti with the first generation 1.2 Tsi engine. I also find the new engine a bit smoother so if you can find a facelift model with there newer engine I would go for it. Mind you there was nothing wrong with the older engine so probably better to go more on general car condition and, particularly, service history than what engine it had.

Well I have been on the look out for a 1.2tsi (se spec atleast) I've seen a 2012 urban model with 58 000 on the clock for 7790. Is it a little expensive? I am thinking hold out for a facelift model. Any thoughts?

Yes its white too

You will love it, I have a 1.2 tsi DSG SE spec on a 2 year PCH, sadly goes back in September

If you can find one with the newer 110 engine then it’s a bonus as heater is bit faster, but they might be out of your budget

I'd double check you can fit whatever buggy/travel system you own, plus other baby paraphernalia, and dog, in the boot.

The boot isn't really that big (and even smaller if you have the spare wheel option which raises the floor substantially).
